Job Summary

The Operations Analyst role is part of MIGA's Operations Department (MIGOP) and the Global Transaction Team (GTT). The Operations Analyst will work on underwriting guarantee transactions, support new business origination and transaction structuring activities, and develop broad knowledge of MIGA's guarantee activities by handling transactions across the platform's full product line (including PRI including Capital Optimization, Non-Honoring for both the real and financial sectors, and trade finance guarantees) and across regions and sectors (energy and extractives, infrastructure, financial institutions, capital markets, manufacturing, agriculture, services, etc.). This is initially a Washington, DC-based position with a strong possibility of decentralization; if shortlisted, this will be discussed at interview. The Operations Analyst will work closely with Transaction Team Leads (Underwriters and Senior Underwriters) on underwriting guarantee transactions. Depending on experience, the activities may also include supporting business origination and transaction structuring activities. Through this role, the Operations Analyst will develop a broad knowledge of MIGA's guarantee activities by working on transactions across the Platform's full product line (including PRI including Capital Optimization, Non-Honoring for both the real and financial sectors, and trade finance guarantees) and across regions and sectors (energy and extractives industries, infrastructure, financial institutions, capital markets, manufacturing, agriculture, services, etc.).

Note that this is initially a Washington, DC-based position, however given the regionalization agenda, there is a strong possibility of this position being selected for decentralization. If shortlisted, this will be discussed with you at interview.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Work on multi-disciplinary transaction teams within MIGA (legal, environment and social, climate finance, reinsurance, gender, integrity, risk, development impact, etc.) throughout the transaction lifecycle including underwriting,



approvals and guarantee negotiation
- Conduct independent research and analysis on various topics including the transaction investor and sector and support analysis on the technical and commercial viability of the investment project
- Prepare and use complex financial models to, amongst others, analyze the financial viability of the investment project or support credit analysis for credit enhancement transactions
- Engage with MIGA's clients, conduct in-country and virtual due diligence meetings with host country government officials, and collaborate with partners (e.g. World Bank, IFC, and other development finance partners)
- Prepare guarantee pricing estimates for clients
- Contribute to preparation of high-quality guarantee proposal documents and participate in presentations to MIGA's Senior Management
- In close coordination with MIGA Senior/Sector Underwriters, Sector Managers, and Regional Heads, support MIGA's new business origination and client management efforts and, as required, conduct industry and client research
- As required, prepare talking points and presentations for new business origination-focused activities with project sponsors, government officials, state-owned enterprises, financial institutions, specialist industry groups, and forums
- As required, collaborate with the portfolio team to provide analytical support in respect of portfolio management activities
- As required, conduct integrity searches on potential clients, project participants and stakeholders

Qualifications and Experience

- Bachelor s or Master s degree (e.g., in Finance, Economics, International Business, or related field) and at least 2 years relevant experience,



or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Relevant experience includes limited non-recourse project finance work and/or analyzing and executing commercial or public sector investments, financial analysis with a focus on complex transactions in the emerging markets general infrastructure and energy sectors. Such experience ideally gained with a reputable and well known global financial institution (multi-lateral development bank, consulting firm, private sector sponsor, investment or commercial bank, etc.)
- Knowledge of emerging markets finance and an understanding of issues related to credit guarantees, trade finance, investment insurance and/or foreign direct investment in emerging markets
- Demonstrated high-level understanding of political, sovereign risk guarantee products, and their application in the project and export finance banking fields
- Fluency in spoken and written English required, and fluency in French and/or Spanish desired
- Excellent knowledge of Excel and financial analysis with the ability to develop complex financial models
- Solid analytical and conceptual skills, preferably in corporate / project finance
- Excellent communication skills (both written and oral)
- Effective interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with clients and colleagues from various cultural backgrounds under time pressure
- Ability to think and work independently, analyze problems and identify appropriate solutions
