- Checks patient identity, medical history, consent forms, and surgical site markings.
- Prepares and sterilizes surgical instruments, equipment, and the room setting.
- Assists the anesthesia team with patient setup and monitoring preparation
During Surgery (Intra-Operative)
- Scrub Nurse: Works in the sterile zone, hands tools to the surgeon, and protects the sterile field.
- Circulating Nurse: Works outside the sterile zone, manages non-sterile supplies, tracks machine functions, and records data.
- Performs strict counts of surgical tools, sponges, and needles with the team to prevent retained items
After Surgery (Post-Operative)
- Transfers the patient safely to the recovery unit.
- Completes all surgical and nursing documentation.
- Cleans and restocks the room for the next procedure
