Roles &
Responsibilities of an OBG Registrar
1. Patient Care
- Assess, diagnose, and manage obstetric and gynecological patients under consultant supervision.
- Provide protected, evidence-based, and patient-centered care in OPD, IPD, labor room, emergency, and operation theatre.
1. Obstetric Responsibilities
- Manage antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal patients.
- Conduct normal vaginal deliveries and assist in operative deliveries and cesarean sections.
- Monitor maternal and fetal well-being during labor.
- Identify and manage obstetric emergencies and promptly escalate to the consultant when required.
1. Gynecology Responsibilities
- Evaluate and manage gynecological patients in outpatient, inpatient, and emergency settings.
- Assist in elective and emergency gynecological surgeries.
- Perform minor gynecological procedures as per competency and departmental protocols.
- Provide comprehensive preoperative and postoperative care.
1. Emergency Services
- Attend obstetric and gynecological emergencies promptly.
- Stabilize critically ill patients and initiate appropriate management.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary care and communicate significant clinical events to the consultant.
1. Clinical Documentation
- Complete admission notes, progress notes, operative notes, discharge summaries, and treatment charts accurately and on time.
- Obtain and document informed consent before procedures.
- Maintain accurate medical records in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
1. Communication & Coordination
- Communicate effectively with consultants, nursing staff, and allied healthcare professionals.
- Participate in daily rounds, handovers, and multidisciplinary discussions.
- Counsel patients and their families regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, procedures, and follow-up care.
1. Patient Safety & Quality
- Adhere to clinical protocols, infection prevention practices, and patient safety standards.
- Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and departmental meetings.
- Report and document adverse events, incidents, and near misses as per policy.
1. Academic & Teaching Responsibilities
- Participate in academic activities, CMEs, journal clubs, and case presentations.
- Contribute to clinical research and departmental academic programs.
- Teach and supervise junior residents, interns, and nursing staff as required.
1. Administrative Responsibilities
- Coordinate investigations, referrals, and discharge planning.
- Ensure timely completion of medico-legal documentation where applicable.
- Comply with institutional policies, procedures, and statutory requirements.
1. Professional Conduct
- Maintain professionalism, ethical medical practice, and patient confidentiality.
- Demonstrate accountability, teamwork, and effective communication.
- Engage in continuous professional development and skill enhancement.
