Interfaces people actually want to open

You build the screens. Web in ReactJS, mobile in React Native, wired into Node.js and Python services, with AI features showing up in the interface more every month. You will be embedded with one of our client product teams in Johannesburg, working hybrid, shipping features that real users tap, swipe and judge within seconds. The front end is where every backend decision, model output and product idea either lands or dies, and you treat it that way.

- Owns front-end delivery across web (ReactJS) and mobile (React Native), from design handoff to app-store release.
- Builds the interface layer for AI-backed features: streaming responses, loading states that respect people, and graceful fallbacks when a model misfires.
- Works against Node.js and Python backends and can move a small change through them without waiting for someone else.
- Ships production mobile apps, not prototypes: release pipelines, crash reporting, and versions users actually run.

Where you'd plug in

NextGen Intelligence is a senior-only engineering practice. Anyone can prompt an app into existence now; we hire the people who make it scale, hold up, and pass an audit. The environment you'd be walking into:

- Senior only, by design. No junior pool, no offshore tier, no bench. The person who scopes the work is the person who does it.
- End to end, no handoffs. You sit on the calls, you build the thing, you ship it and you stand behind it in the next release.
- This role is hybrid in Johannesburg. You will spend part of the week on site with the client product team you are embedded in, and the rest working remotely.
- You represent NextGen inside a client's building. That means the bar is the same as on our own products: clean work, plain speech, no surprises.
- AI-assisted tooling as standard. We read whole codebases, not samples, and ship working software while others are still writing the proposal.
- AI is a tool we use deliberately, not a default. The same goes for the front end: if a native module beats a library, we use the native module.

Own the front of the product

1. Mobile App Development (React Native)

Apps that survive real devices, real networks and real users.

- Build and maintain production React Native apps for iOS and Android, from feature branch to store release.
- Handle the unglamorous parts well: navigation, deep links, push notifications, offline states and upgrades that do not eat user data.
- Keep performance honest on mid-range Android devices and patchy South African mobile networks, not just the latest iPhone on office wifi.
- Own release pipelines, crash reporting and the discipline of shipping small and often.

2. Web Front-End (ReactJS)

The web side of the same product, held to the same standard.

- Build responsive,



accessible ReactJS interfaces that share logic and design language with the mobile apps where it makes sense.
- Manage state deliberately: server state, client state and cache treated as different problems, not one big store.
- Turn designer handoff into pixel-faithful, maintainable components without a translation layer of meetings.
- Keep bundle sizes, load times and Core Web Vitals in check as the product grows.

3. Backend Collaboration (Node.js & Python)

Full-stack enough that the API is never someone else's problem.

- Read, debug and extend the Node.js and Python services your interfaces depend on.
- Design API contracts with the backend engineers instead of discovering them after the fact.
- Make small backend changes yourself when that is faster than a ticket: a new endpoint field, a fixed response shape, a missing index flag raised early.
- Handle auth, error states and retries in the client so backend hiccups degrade gracefully instead of crashing the app.

4. AI Features in the Interface

Where model output meets an actual human.

- Build the front end for AI-backed features: chat and assistant surfaces, streaming token displays, suggestion flows and confidence cues.
- Design honest loading and failure states, because models are slow sometimes and wrong sometimes, and the interface has to admit both.
- Integrate with AI endpoints and orchestration layers built by our AI team, and give them blunt feedback on latency and output shape.
- Use AI-assisted development tools daily, with your own judgement on every line that ships.

5. Embedded Client Delivery

Working inside someone else's product team, carrying our name.

- Integrate into the client's rituals, tools and codebase quickly, and add pace without adding chaos.
- Communicate progress, risks and trade-offs plainly to the client's product owners, no jargon and no surprises.
- Protect quality under delivery pressure: raise the flag early when a deadline and a standard are about to collide.
- Feed what you learn on the ground back to NextGen so the engagement gets sharper each month.

- GraphQL, offline-first architectures, or app performance monitoring at scale.
