About The Role We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Software Engineer specializing in Java backend development to join our Operations & Technology Fraud Products team at Mastercard. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing and enhancing our Decision Management Platform, which is central to combating fraud and verifying cardholder identities across multiple business solutions. Our platform processes billions of transactions monthly, utilizing a multi-tiered, message-oriented architecture to ensure high performance, scalability, and availability.

You will work on cutting-edge technologies and complex business problems, delivering industry-leading solutions that safeguard our customers and financial institutions. Qualifications The ideal candidate will have between 8 to 12 years of professional experience in software engineering, with a strong focus on Java development. A proven track record of leading technical initiatives, demonstrating ownership, and adapting quickly to changing requirements is essential. Candidates should possess a solid understanding of distributed systems,



service-oriented architecture, and modern design patterns such as dependency injection and lazy loading, preferably with experience in open frameworks like Spring Boot.

Expertise in building high-performance, scalable backend services using Java, Spring, gRPC, and related technologies is required. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins), containerization tools (Docker, Kubernetes), and cloud platforms (AWS) is also necessary. Additionally, experience working with relational databases such as Oracle, NoSQL databases like Cassandra, and messaging systems such as Kafka and MQ will be advantageous.

Solid communication skills, leadership capabilities, and experience in Agile methodologies are critical for success in this role.

Responsibilities Your primary responsibilities will include delivering high-quality software solutions through direct development and technical leadership. You will collaborate closely with technical leads and cross-functional teams to design, develop, and implement scalable, secure, and efficient backend systems. Leading day-to-day system development activities, managing offshore teams, and ensuring adherence to service level agreements will be key aspects of your role.

You will be responsible for creating comprehensive technical artifacts, including requirements documents, design specifications, performance benchmarks, and deployment plans. Participating in proof-of-concept initiatives, vendor evaluations, and technology assessments will be part of your strategic contributions. You will also facilitate knowledge transfer and provide technical training to team members, ensuring continuous improvement and skill development.

Conducting code reviews,



enforcing engineering standards, and ensuring compliance with security practices such as OWASP and CWE will be integral to maintaining high standards. Additionally, you will actively participate in Agile SAFe ceremonies, including requirements and design reviews, to ensure the successful delivery of projects.

Your role will also involve supporting production environments, troubleshooting incidents, and implementing innovative solutions to improve process efficiency and system performance.
