Job Title: General Manager R&D;

Job scope/summary: To oversee R&D; activities and lead R&D; teams productivity.

Job Requirements/Qualification/Experience:

At least a Ph.D degree in Polymer Science/Materials Science from the University of repute. Minimum 15 years of industrial R&D; experience (after Ph.D) or M.Tech/M.Sc. (Polymer Tech/Science) with minimum 20 to 22 years of experience.

Expected to be solid in product and application development in one or two below mentioned areas of research. A broad base of experience in polymer chemistry, synthesis and advanced characterization is necessary.

1. Specialty chemicals: Product development of polyelectrolytes, emulsion polymers, polymer dispersants, flocculants and green polymer inhibitors. The product development knowledge in water treatment, paper, textile, ceramic, petro refinery chemicals etc is prerequisite.
2. Ion exchange resins: Product and application development of various ion exchange resins, materials, polymeric adsorbents, catalyst resins, pharma grade resins, porous polymers etc. The application knowledge of these products in water treatment, process separations and purifications, advanced catalysis, chromatographic applications etc is prerequisite.
3. Membrane materials: Product development of Reverse osmosis, Ultrafiltration (flat sheet and hollow fibre membranes), Nanofiltration and Ion exchange membranes. Hands on experience in the research and development of nanostructured and advanced membranes is added advantage. The application knowledge of these products in water treatment, wastewater treatment, process separations and filtrations, product purification and isolations etc. is prerequisite.

Key aspects of the role:

- To lead all the capability work linked to Product and application development as well as provide direct leadership to technically complex R&D; projects.



This will include new product proposals and designs across multiple business segments like above mentioned speciality chemicals, Ion exchange resins and membranes.
- Coordinate with multifunctional teams (with marketing, production), Supply chain, Supply management, Finance & other associated functions.
- Work closely with marketing teams, clients and stakeholders to capture project inputs, product design and frame protocols for feasibility studies.
- Scientific documentation, publication and IP protection of R&D; output.
- Align with the various stakeholders in the categories (Division & Vertical Heads, Head R&D; etc).
- Process improvement, RMC and ETP load reductions of existing products/processes. Implementation of organization sustainability goals.

Key Accountabilities:

- Responsible for shaping, the Capability program & roadmap, technical support to complex innovation requirements, managing internal R&D; labs.
- Responsible for developing and executing the delivery network in full of R&D; projects and other technical projects.
- Directly responsible for Scientific/Technical delivery (including feasibility studies, product design and development plans etc.).
- Responsible for intellectual property protection and patents, coordinating with patent consultants to validate patenting and patent filing.
- Coordinate with lab managers to prepare know-how dockets (KHDs), product bulletins, MSDS, product data sheets, SOPs, and internal technical notes.




- Responsible for line management of Research scientists, coaching, supporting & developing all team members.
- Facilitation of laboratory infrastructure, process scale up requirements and coordination with production teams for technology transfers.
- Responsible for implementation of ISO systems, general laboratory safety, process hazop studies, DSIR coordination and other statutory requirements of R&D; Center.
- Responsible for ensuring handover of specification, BOM, test methods and product life cycle documents.

Skills/ Competencies/ Hands on:

- Should possess Working knowledge of polymer synthesis, properties and characterization of new polymers.
- Should have handled/managed team of R&D; scientists (at least 20 member team)
- Experience in water treatment/wastewater treatment industry/ separations and filtration processes its interface with material chemistries.
- Should have good communication & presentation skills to interface with team members, Material suppliers and coordination with manufacturing plants located at different parts of India.
- Design mind-set, external orientation, appetite to explore current ideas and ability to work with diverse people/functions across business segments.
- Experience as project leader for R&D; projects would be an advantage and should have the capability and mind-set in accelerating innovations.
- Flexibility & agility in thought leadership to navigate through the constantly evolving landscape, given the major growth ambition in a short time frame. Proactive and growth mind-set would be key.
- Excellent influencing ability, with both internal as well as external stakeholders.

Preferred candidate profile Having Good Experience in Industrial Specialty Chemicals , Resins ,Water treatment Chemicals, Polymer Chemicals.
