Founding Engineer, TrueEntry (CTO track) Chennai preferred, remote considered | Full time | Founding team
TrueEntry is AI-native accounting for India's D2C and e-commerce brands. Inventory, orders, purchasing and GST-compliant books in one system, with AI doing about 90% of the month-end grunt work while the CA stays in control and signs off.
The hard part is not the AI. The hard part is being right. A chatbot that is 95% accurate is a good demo. A ledger that is 95% accurate is a lawsuit. We are building matching and categorization systems where the correctness bar is 99.9%, on the messiest data in Indian business: marketplace settlement files, bank statements from twelve banks in twelve formats, GSTR-2B JSON, and purchase registers that were maintained in Excel by someone who left.
If that sounds like a boring problem, this role is not for you. If you have ever stared at an unmatched tail of 4,000 transactions and wanted to kill it properly, keep reading.
The role
You are engineer number one. You own the reconciliation and intelligence core: statement ingestion, transaction categorization with confidence scoring, many-to-many matching, the exception queue, and GST reconciliation. You write code every day. You make the architecture calls. You talk to the CAs and D2C founders who use this and you watch them break it.
Twelve to eighteen months in, if you have been running engineering in practice, you get the CTO title and the equity that goes with it.
We would rather earn our way into that than hand out a title in an interview.
What you have done
- Shipped AI on real financial documents or transactions in production. Statement parsing, extraction, categorization, anomaly detection, confidence scoring. Not chatbots, not RAG demos.
- Built or owned a reconciliation or matching engine. You can explain many-to-many matching, partial settlements, tolerance windows, and what you did with the tail that would not match.
- 4-7 years of building. Modern TypeScript stack, Postgres, and the judgement to know when the deterministic rules engine beats the LLM. (Hint: arithmetic.)
- Worked somewhere the output had to be correct, not just plausible. Payments, recon, lending, GST, marketplace settlements, treasury.
What we do not care about Degree. College tier. CGPA. Whether you have managed anyone. Whether you have the word "senior" in your title. Show us a system you built and we will take it from there.
The honest version of "can you take pressure"
This is a founding role at a company with no cushion. Month-end close does not move. When a customer's books are wrong, it is your Saturday. You will be the only person who understands large parts of the system for a while, and you will ship things that scare you slightly. In exchange you get complete ownership, no process, no committee, and direct access to the founder every day.
- We are not asking you to work 80 hour weeks. We are telling you the stakes are real and the buck stops close to you.
