OB SPECIFICATIONS Education

- Diploma / Degree in Fire &
- Safety Engineering, Fire Technology, Industrial Safety or equivalent.

- Certification in Fire &

- Safety from a recognized institution.

Experience

- Minimum 5–8 years of experience in Fire &
- Safety, preferably in a hospital or healthcare facility.

- Experience in NABH-accredited hospitals will be an added advantage.

Technical Knowledge

- Knowledge of National Building Code (NBC) Fire &
- Life Safety requirements.

- NABH Standards related to Facility Management &

- Safety (FMS).

- Fire prevention, detection, suppression and evacuation procedures.

- Fire hydrant, sprinkler, alarm and extinguishing systems.

- Disaster Management and Emergency Preparedness.

- Occupational Health &

- Safety practices.

- Basic electrical safety and hazardous material handling.

Skills &

Certifications

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Ensure compliance with all Fire &
- Safety regulations, statutory requirements, and NABH standards.

- Conduct routine inspections of all fire protection systems including hydrants, sprinklers, fire alarms, smoke detectors, extinguishers, emergency lighting, and exit signage.





- Coordinate preventive maintenance and testing of fire protection equipment.

- Maintain records of inspections, testing, servicing, and maintenance.

- Conduct fire risk assessments throughout the hospital.

- Identify fire hazards and recommend corrective actions.

- Organize periodic fire drills for hospital staff, patients, and visitors.

- Conduct induction and refresher training on fire safety, evacuation procedures, and emergency response.

- Ensure all departments maintain transparent emergency exits and escape routes.

- Verify availability and serviceability of fire extinguishers.

- Coordinate with external agencies such as Fire &

- Rescue Services during inspections and emergencies.

- Participate in Disaster Management Committee activities.

- Ensure proper implementation of the Hospital Disaster Management Plan.

- Investigate fire incidents, prepare reports, and recommend preventive measures.

- Monitor contractor compliance with fire safety requirements during renovation and maintenance activities.

- Ensure safe storage of flammable materials, medical gases, and hazardous substances.

- Coordinate mock drills and evaluate emergency preparedness.

- Maintain statutory records and documentation required by regulatory authorities.





- Participate in internal and external audits including NABH assessments.

- Assist departments in implementing corrective and preventive actions related to fire safety.

- Ensure proper display of fire evacuation plans and emergency contact information.

- Promote awareness of fire safety practices among staff, patients, and visitors.

ACCOUNTABILITY The Fire &

- Safety Officer is accountable for:

- Compliance with Fire &
- Safety regulations and NABH standards.

- Operational readiness of all fire protection systems.

- Conduct of scheduled fire drills and emergency preparedness activities.

- Timely reporting and documentation of inspections and incidents.

- Staff awareness and competency in fire safety practices.

- Safe evacuation planning and emergency response.

- Maintenance of statutory compliance records.

- Reduction of fire hazards within the hospital premises.

AUTHORITY The Fire &

- Safety Officer is authorized to:

- Inspect any department for fire safety compliance.

- Recommend immediate corrective actions for identified hazards.

- Stop unsafe work practices that pose fire risks.

- Coordinate fire drills and emergency evacuation exercises.

- Report non-compliance directly to the reporting authority.

- Recommend repair or replacement of defective fire safety equipment.

- Coordinate with maintenance, engineering, and external fire authorities on fire safety matters.

- Initiate emergency response procedures during fire or disaster situations.
