The Ammonia Operator is responsible for the safe operation, monitoring, inspection, and maintenance of the ammonia refrigeration system to ensure uninterrupted cooling for milk and dairy products. The role focuses on system efficiency, preventive maintenance, regulatory compliance, and adherence to safety standards.
Key Responsibilities Plant Operations
- Operate and monitor ammonia refrigeration compressors, condensers, evaporators, pumps, cooling towers, and associated equipment.
- Maintain required refrigeration temperatures for milk processing, cold rooms, and storage areas.
- Monitor system pressure, temperature, oil levels, refrigerant levels, and operating parameters.
- Perform routine inspections to ensure safe and productive plant operation.
- Record operating parameters in daily log sheets.
Maintenance
- Perform routine preventive maintenance of refrigeration equipment.
- Identify equipment faults and report abnormalities promptly.
- Assist the maintenance team during repairs, overhauls, and shutdowns.
- Monitor compressor lubrication, valves, piping, and safety devices.
- Ensure proper housekeeping in the refrigeration plant.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all safety procedures for handling ammonia refrigeration systems.
- Inspect ammonia leak detection systems and emergency equipment regularly.
- Respond to emergencies according to the plant's emergency response plan.
- Ensure compliance with applicable safety, environmental, and occupational health regulations.
- Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during operations and maintenance.
Documentation
- Maintain daily operation and maintenance records.
- Report equipment breakdowns and corrective actions.
- Maintain preventive maintenance checklists and inspection reports.
- Support internal and external safety audits.
Coordination
- Coordinate with Production, Quality, Utilities, and Maintenance departments to ensure uninterrupted cooling operations.
- Assist in plant shutdowns, startups, and system commissioning activities.
- Participate in emergency drills and safety training programs.
Qualifications
- ITI, Diploma, or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, or a related technical field.
- Certification in Industrial Ammonia Refrigeration or Boiler/Refrigeration Operations is preferred.
- 2–5 years of experience operating industrial ammonia refrigeration systems, preferably in a dairy, food processing, beverage, or cold storage facility.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of industrial ammonia refrigeration systems.
- Understanding of compressors, condensers, evaporators, valves, and refrigeration controls.
- Ability to read P&ID; drawings and equipment manuals.
- Preventive maintenance and troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge of industrial safety practices and emergency response procedures.
- Basic computer skills for maintaining operational records.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.

- Continuous availability and efficiency of the refrigeration system.
- Zero major ammonia leaks or safety incidents.
- Timely completion of preventive maintenance activities.
- Minimal equipment downtime.
- Compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
- Accurate maintenance of operational logs and records.
- Successful completion of safety inspections and audits.
Pay: ₹15,000.00 - ₹23,000.00 per month
