Job Title: SPM Mechanical Design Engineer
Department: Tool Room
Reports To: Manager – Tool Room
Job Summary
The Mechanical Design Engineer – Automation (SPM) is responsible for the design, development, and implementation of Special Purpose Machines (SPMs), automation equipment, and tooling for connector assembly, inspection, and testing processes. The role focuses on machine concept development, 3D modeling, fabrication design, detailed manufacturing drawings, component selection, and supporting machine build activities to improve manufacturing productivity, quality, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities1. Automation Design and Development
- Design and develop semi-automatic and fully automatic Special Purpose Machines (SPMs) for connector assembly and related manufacturing operations.
- Develop machine concepts, layouts, and process flow solutions based on production requirements.
- Design machine structures, fabricated frames, guarding, fixtures, mechanisms, and tooling systems.
- Prepare detailed manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOM).
- Ensure machine designs are robust, manufacturable, and easy to assemble and maintain.
2. Machine Integration and Troubleshooting
- Select suitable mechanical components such as linear guides, ball screws, bearings, shafts, couplings, motors, gearboxes, pneumatic cylinders, and standard machine elements.
- Design indexing mechanisms, feeding systems, pick-and-place mechanisms, and assembly fixtures.
- Perform tolerance analysis and design validation for smooth machine operation.
- Support design optimization to improve machine performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
3. Documentation and Technical Support
- Prepare and maintain 2D drawings, 3D models, BOMs, assembly drawings, and engineering documentation.
- Maintain revision control and engineering change records.
- Ensure all machine designs comply with company standards and safety requirements.
- Provide technical support to Tool Room, Production, and Assembly teams during machine build activities.
QualificationsEducation
- Diploma / B.E. in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Automation Engineering, or related field.
Experience
- 2–5 years of hands-on experience in Mechanical Design of Special Purpose Machines (SPMs) or Industrial Automation Equipment.
- Experience in connector manufacturing, precision components, or assembly automation is preferred.
- Experience in machine fabrication, assembly, and design validation is desirable.
Technical Skills
· Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, AutoCAD, or equivalent.
· Robust understanding of machine design principles, fabrication design, and assembly mechanisms.
· Knowledge of pneumatic systems and standard machine components.
· Experience in preparing manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings, and BOMs.
· Knowledge of GD&T;, tolerance analysis, and manufacturing processes.
· Understanding of machine safety standards and industrial automation equipment.
Pay: ₹500,000.00 - ₹800,000.00 per year
