- Structural Fabrication & Assembly: Joining steel plates, beams, and bulkheads to build or repair hulls, decks, and structural frameworks.
- Blueprint & Layout Interpretation: Reading complex engineering drawings, schematics, and naval welding symbols to ensure accuracy.
- Pipe & Component Welding: Joining specialized piping systems inside the vessel that transport fluids and gases.
- Cutting & Prep Work: Using plasma cutters, grinders, and oxy-fuel torches to cut, bevel, and fit metal pieces together prior to welding.
- Quality Assurance: Inspecting welds for structural integrity, correct dimensions, and compliance with military or commercial vessel codes (such as ABS or NAVSEA).
- Safety Compliance: Following strict shipyard safety protocols, which frequently involves working at heights, in enclosed spaces, or in extreme weather conditions.
