Role Description The Ethical Hacker role at NEXUS is a part-time, remote position focused on identifying and responsibly reporting security vulnerabilities. Day-to-day tasks include performing penetration testing on systems and applications, analyzing security controls, and documenting findings with clear technical details and remediation recommendations.

The role involves collaborating with other researchers and defenders on real security projects, participating in code and configuration reviews, and contributing to knowledge sharing within the community.

Hackers are expected to follow established responsible disclosure processes and adhere to legal and ethical standards in all testing activities.

Qualifications

- Strong understanding of ethical hacking principles, penetration testing methodologies, and vulnerability assessment techniques.
- Practical experience with common security tools and frameworks (e.g., Burp Suite, Nmap, Metasploit, Wireshark, OWASP methodologies).
- Solid grasp of networking fundamentals, operating systems (Linux/Windows), and basic scripting or programming (e.g., Python, Bash, or similar).
- Ability to write clear technical reports, communicate findings to technical and non-technical audiences, and collaborate in distributed teams.
- Knowledge of secure coding practices and common application vulnerabilities (e.g., OWASP Top 10) is highly beneficial.
- Demonstrated commitment to responsible disclosure, legal compliance, and ethical conduct in all security activities.
- Relevant coursework, certifications (e.g., CEH, OSCP, or similar), or comparable hands-on experience in cybersecurity are a plus.
- Self-motivated, able to manage part-time remote work, and willing to continuously learn in a fast-evolving security landscape.
