We are now working on a children's book and need an illustrator to bring this project to life!

Pl note that this is a freelance project and candidates can be based anywhere.

Role & Responsibilities

- Design ~15 named characters by turning the reference photos that will be provided into original, consistent, storybook-style character designs (not photorealistic, not overly abstract but recognizable likenesses, stylized)
- Illustrate 19 full pages/spreads, one per page, based on the manuscript and the written illustration note provided for each page (scene, setting, and mood are already described you bring the visual interpretation and artistic judgment)
- Maintain character consistency across every page a character appears on (same face, proportions, and styling throughout, as in a professionally published picture book)
- Accurately and warmly depict Indian and Diwali cultural elements diyas, rangoli, marigold garlands, festive clothing (lehenga, etc.), mithai, family gatherings with cultural respect and authenticity
- Communicate proactively on progress, flag any concerns early,



and deliver on the agreed timeline
- Incorporate feedback as requested and provide a final approved illustration file with all relevant pages and characters completed.
- Deliver final files (inclusive of story which will be provided to you) in a print-ready format suitable for self-publishing (please specify your standard export settings, e.g. 300 DPI, CMYK)

Preferred Candidate Profile

- Minimum 5 years of qualified experience illustrating children's books, with a portfolio to match
- At least one previously published or fully completed children's book you can show or link to
- Proven experience designing consistent characters across multiple pages/scenes please highlight this specifically in your samples
- Comfortable working from photo references to create original character art not tracing or copying, but capturing a recognizable likeness in your own style
- Warm, bright, expressive illustration style — someone whose existing work already leans toward cozy, family-oriented storytelling
- Clear, responsive communicator who meets deadlines and is comfortable with a back-and-forth creative process
