About The Role We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer (Java Backend Developer) to join our Operations & Technology – Fraud Products team. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing new capabilities for Mastercard’s Decision Management Platform, which is central to our efforts in combating fraud and verifying cardholder identities. The platform processes billions of transactions monthly with high performance and availability, utilizing a multi-tiered, message-oriented architecture built on Java technology.

Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background with proven experience in Java-based backend development, along with excellent problem-solving skills. A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is required,



with a preference for candidates holding a master's degree or higher. Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in software development, particularly in designing and implementing complex, high-scale applications.

Hands-on experience with J2EE, RESTful Web Services, Spring Framework (including Spring Boot), and database management (Oracle, SQL scripting) is essential. Familiarity with containerized environments such as Kubernetes or OpenShift, and frontend frameworks like Angular or React, is desirable. Strong communication skills, the ability to work effectively in a distributed Agile environment, and a proactive approach to problem-solving are also key qualifications.

Responsibilities The Senior Software Engineer will be responsible for delivering high-quality software solutions through hands-on development and active collaboration with technical leads to design and implement system components.

Key responsibilities include: Developing, testing, and maintaining Java-based backend services aligned with Mastercard’s standards and best practices.

Providing production support by acting as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to troubleshoot incidents and resolve problem tickets swiftly.

Planning, designing, and documenting technical solutions, including requirements gathering, use case analysis, and technical design documents.

Leading the end-to-end Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including requirements analysis, technical design, testing strategies, performance benchmarking, and deployment planning.

Participating in Proof of Concepts (PoCs),



supporting vendor and technology selection, and conducting technical evaluations.

Mentoring team members, conducting technical training sessions, and sharing knowledge through brown bag sessions.

Driving continuous improvement in coding standards, development processes, and overall team efficiency.

Ensuring comprehensive test coverage across unit, system, integration, and performance testing phases.

Conducting quality inspections, including requirements reviews, design walkthroughs, code reviews, and security assessments.
