Associate General Manager / General Manager - Indirect Taxes Function: Finance Location: Corporate Office Reporting to: Head - Finance Role Purpose The role will lead the Company’s end-to-end indirect tax function across India operations including business verticals, manufacturing units, depots, warehouses, contract manufacturing locations, distribution channels, exports, imports, and e-commerce operations. The position is responsible for ensuring compliance with GST and other applicable indirect tax laws, while providing strategic tax advisory to support business growth, optimize tax positions, minimize litigation risks, and strengthen governance.
Key Responsibilities Lead end-to-end GST compliance, including timely and accurate filing of returns, tax payments, reconciliations, and maintenance of statutory records across locations.
Oversee Input Tax Credit governance, including eligibility, availment, reversals, blocked credits, vendor compliance, and ITC reconciliation to maximize credit realization and prevent leakage.
Provide indirect tax advisory to business teams on recent products, business models, distribution arrangements, trade schemes, contract manufacturing, job work, warehousing, inter-company transactions, e-commerce, and commercial contracts.
Drive product classification and taxability assessment across categories such as pharmaceuticals, ayurvedic products, nutraceuticals, personal care, cosmetics, wellness, and food supplements, including HSN determination and GST rate applicability.
Manage export and import taxation, including LUT/Bond compliances, zero-rated supplies, refunds, SEZ/EOU transactions, import GST, customs implications, valuation, classification, and duty optimization opportunities.
Lead indirect tax litigation, departmental notices, audits,
investigations, appeals, and tax exposure assessment, while coordinating with consultants, counsels, and tax authorities.
Drive ERP and tax automation initiatives, including SAP/ERP tax configuration, master data accuracy, process digitization, analytics, and internal control strengthening.
Develop tax policies, SOPs, compliance health checks, and governance mechanisms to ensure robust indirect tax controls across the organization.
Partner with cross-functional stakeholders including Finance, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Procurement, Commercial, Regulatory, Legal, Product Development, and International Business teams.
Lead and develop the indirect tax team, build technical capability, and drive continuous improvement.
Key Accountabilities 100% compliance with indirect tax laws and statutory timelines.
Accurate and timely filing of GST returns and tax payments.
Effective closure of notices, audits, investigations, and litigations.
Accurate product classification and GST rate determination.
Maximization of eligible ITC and timely realization of refunds.
Strong tax governance, internal controls, and process discipline.
Continuous improvement through automation and simplification.
Candidate Profile Qualification: Chartered Accountant (CA); +LLB preferred.
Experience: 15-20 years of post-qualification experience in indirect taxation, with strong exposure to GST, customs, export/import taxation, litigation, and tax advisory in FMCG, pharmaceuticals, consumer healthcare, personal care, or manufacturing sectors.
Experience in SAP/ERP environments is essential. Core Competencies GST and Customs laws
