An Assistant Manager in a Machine shop oversees machining processes & co-ordinate with other functions to achieve production target and ensure efficiency, quality, and safety. Responsible for production strategies, managing resources, improving efficiency, troubleshooting issues, and adhering to safety standards. He plays a crucial role in enhancing machine utilisation and reducing costs while ensuring the well-being of workers. Responsible for tool selection & optimization.

Roles and Responsibilities

- Production Planning: Advanced planning and scheduling at machine shop to meet the monthly targets and to increase the machine utilisation. Focus on optimizing the allocation of materials, equipment, and labour, taking into account the various constraints such as machine capacity, labour skills, and material availability. By accurately forecasting demand and scheduling production activities, plan for optimal production runs, minimize downtime, and ensure timely delivery of machined parts to fabrication and assembly. Improve machine availability and OEE.
- Process Improvement: Implement strategies to improve production processes especially in machining time reduction, cycle time reduction, reduce waste, and enhance efficiency, incorporating principles like lean manufacturing, kaizen, and 5S.
- Troubleshooting:



Identify and diagnose machining issues and production issues, providing immediate solutions to prevent delays and maintain the production schedule.
- Safety and Compliance: Establish and enforce safety protocols and procedures, ensuring a safe working setting and compliance with relevant regulations.
- Quality Control: Ensure machined parts are meet the required standards and specifications, implementing continuous quality improvement practices.
- Training and Development: Train production staff and DET’s on the proper use of machinery and equipment, safety practices, and efficiency techniques.
- Collaboration and Coordination: Work closely with other departments, such as fabrication, planning, quality control, Assembly and maintenance, to enhance product quality and production efficiency.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of production data, process improvements, and quality control measures for analysis and reporting. Generate SOP & follow the WPS.
- Project Management: Plan and manage production schedules and other improvement projects, ensuring projects are completed on time while also handling administrative tasks associated with these projects
