Role & responsibilities
Academic Counsellor Role Overview The Academic Counsellor is responsible for engaging with prospective parents and students, understanding their academic goals and learning needs, and recommending the most suitable educational programmes.
This role requires a consultative approach to counselling, guiding families through the enrolment process while building trust and confidence.
The counsellor will be responsible for achieving student enrolment and revenue targets, maintaining accurate records of enquiries and follow-ups, and delivering an exceptional customer experience from the initial enquiry through to successful onboarding. Strong communication skills, relationship-building abilities, and a customer-centric mindset are essential to ensure high levels of parent and student satisfaction while contributing to the overall growth of the organisation.
This is a camera-on remote position, and candidates are expected to maintain a professional home-office environment with a reliable internet connection throughout working hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage with prospective parents and students through outbound calls, WhatsApp, email, and virtual meetings to understand their academic needs and career goals.
- Provide personalised academic counselling by recommending suitable learning programmes based on the student's current level, learning objectives, and academic requirements.
- Drive student enrolments by effectively communicating programme benefits, addressing concerns, and achieving or exceeding monthly admission and revenue targets.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with parents and students throughout their learning journey, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction and trust.
- Handle enquiries, objections, and negotiations professionally, guiding prospective families through the complete admissions process and successfully closing enrolments.
- Manage the complete student lifecycle, including admissions, onboarding, fee collection follow-ups, course registration, and ongoing relationship management.
- Monitor student attendance, academic progress, and engagement, proactively identifying students who may require additional academic support or intervention.
- Respond promptly to student and parent queries regarding courses, schedules, assessments, homework, examinations, and learning resources.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of leads, student interactions, admissions, payments, and follow-up activities in the CRM and finance systems.
- Coordinate with tutors, academic coordinators,
and management to ensure students receive timely academic support and an excellent learning experience.
- Collect parent and student feedback, identify areas for improvement, and contribute to initiatives that enhance customer satisfaction and service quality.
- Develop and implement student retention strategies to improve renewal rates, minimise dropouts, and encourage long-term enrolment.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports on enquiries, conversions, admissions, revenue, retention, and other key performance indicators.
- Stay updated on programme offerings, curriculum changes, competitor activities, and market trends to provide accurate guidance to prospective families.
Preferred candidate profile Qualifications & Skills .
- Bachelor's degree in any discipline
- 2 - 5 years of experience in academic counselling, admissions, inside sales, telesales, customer relationship management, or a related field.
- Prior experience in the education, EdTech, or online learning industry will be an added advantage.
Skills & Competencies
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are essential.
- Proficiency in Tamil is preferred. Knowledge of Malayalam, Telugu, or Hindi will be an added advantage.
- Strong interpersonal, persuasion, negotiation, and consultative selling skills.
- Target-driven, self-motivated, and performance-oriented with the ability to consistently achieve enrolment and revenue goals.
- Ability to build trust and develop long-term relationships with parents and students.
- Robust objection-handling, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Proficiency in using CRM systems, Microsoft Office/Google Workspace, and sales tracking tools.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple enquiries and follow-ups effectively.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.
- Strong attention to detail with accurate record-keeping and documentation skills.
- A positive attitude, willingness to learn, adaptability, and commitment to delivering an outstanding customer experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience working in an EdTech, online learning, or education services organisation.
- Certification in Career Counselling, Academic Counselling, Student Guidance, or a related field will be an added advantage.
- Familiarity with the UK education system (GCSE, IGCSE, A Levels, KS2KS4) is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of competitive entrance examinations such as JEE, NEET, CAT, GATE, or other national/international academic programmes is an advantage.
- Basic knowledge of digital marketing, social media platforms, and online lead generation techniques.
- Experience using CRM platforms, virtual meeting tools (Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams), and productivity tools such as Microsoft Office or Google Workspace.
Work Details
- Work Location: Remote (Work from Home with Camera on)
- Shift Timing: 2:00 PM 11:00 PM (IST) to support UK business hours.
- Work Schedule: 6-day work week with Tuesday as the fixed weekly off.
- Equipment Requirement: A personal laptop/desktop with a webcam, headset, and a reliable high-speed internet connection is mandatory.
- Performance Expectations: Candidates should be comfortable working in a target-driven environment with defined KPIs for student enrolments, revenue, customer satisfaction, and retention.
- Training: Comprehensive induction and ongoing product, sales, and academic training will be provided.

- Fixed Annual CTC: 2.0 4.0 Lakhs per annum (based on qualifications, experience, and interview performance).
