Mechanical Engineer responsible for designing and developing mechanical enclosures and structures for embedded and IoT devices. Works closely with the embedded (hardware & firmware) team to ensure proper integration, thermal management, durability, and production feasibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Design mechanical enclosures and housings for IoT and embedded devices
- Work closely with embedded hardware team for PCB fitment and component placement
- Ensure proper thermal management, ventilation, and heat dissipation
- Develop 2D drawings and 3D models for products and assemblies
- Select appropriate materials based on application and environment
- Coordinate with vendors for fabrication, machining, and molding
- Support prototyping, testing, and product validation
- Ensure product durability, IP rating (Ingress Protection), and environmental compliance
- Modify designs based on testing feedback and field requirements
- Collaborate with firmware team for sensor placement and usability
- Prepare and maintain design documentation and BOM (Bill of Materials)
- Support production team during assembly and manufacturing
- Ensure cost-effective and manufacturable design solutions
Required Skills
- Solid knowledge of mechanical design fundamentals
- Experience in 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Fusion 360, etc.)
- Understanding of sheet metal, plastics, and enclosure design
- Knowledge of thermal management and heat dissipation techniques
- Familiarity with IP ratings and environmental considerations
- Basic understanding of electronics and embedded systems
- Good problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to work in cross-functional teams
Educational Qualification
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
Experience
- 1-2 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably for electronics/IoT products
Other Requirements
- Ability to coordinate with embedded and production teams
- Willingness to visit vendors or manufacturing units if required
- Good documentation and communication skills
