Job Description – Shift Engineer (Electrical) Natural Gas Based Power Plant

Job Summary

The Shift Engineer (Electrical) is responsible for operating and maintaining the electrical systems of the power plant. The role ensures smooth plant operations, attends electrical breakdowns, performs maintenance activities, and follows all safety procedures.

Key Responsibilities

1. Operate and monitor electrical equipment during the shift.

2. Check generators, transformers, switchgear, MCC, and electrical panels.

3. Attend electrical breakdowns and rectify faults quickly.

4. Carry out routine inspections and preventive maintenance.

5. Monitor generator synchronization and power distribution.

6. Maintain UPS systems, battery banks, DG sets, and lighting systems.

7. Record shift activities and maintenance reports.

8. Coordinate with Mechanical, Instrumentation, and Operations teams.

9. Follow electrical safety procedures, LOTO, and Permit-to-Work (PTW) systems.

Support plant start-up, shutdown, and emergency activities.

11. Monitor power consumption and suggest energy-saving improvements.

12. Guide technicians and contractors during maintenance work.

Qualification

1. Diploma or B.E./B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering.

Experience

1. 2–5 years of experience in a Natural Gas Power Plant, Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP), Captive Power Plant, or similar industry.

2. Experience in gas turbine electrical systems is an added advantage.

1. HT & LT electrical systems

2. Generators and transformers

3. Switchgear, MCC & PCC panels

4. Electrical troubleshooting and maintenance

5. PLC, DCS & SCADA basics

6. Motors, VFDs, UPS & battery systems

7. Electrical safety (LOTO & PTW)

Working Conditions

1. Rotational shifts, including night shifts.

2. Work in a power plant environment.

3. PPE must be worn at all times.

4. Available for emergency breakdown support when required.

Pay: ₹15,000.00 - ₹20,000.00 per month
