- Assess, evaluate, and manage critically ill patients admitted to the ICU.
- Monitor patient progress and modify treatment plans in consultation with ICU consultants.
- Perform detailed history taking, clinical examination, and documentation.
- Interpret laboratory investigations, imaging, and bedside monitoring data.
- Respond promptly to medical emergencies and code blue situations.
Procedures
- Assist in or independently perform procedures based on competency, including:
- Central venous catheter insertion
- Arterial line insertion
- Endotracheal intubation
- Mechanical ventilation management
- Lumbar puncture (where indicated)
- Intercostal drain insertion (as per privileges)
- Basic bedside ultrasound (preferred)
ICU Management
- Manage ventilators, vasoactive medications, sedation, analgesia, and fluid therapy.
- Participate in daily ICU rounds and formulate patient management plans.
- Coordinate referrals and consultations with other specialties.
- Ensure timely escalation of deteriorating patients.
Documentation & Quality
- Maintain accurate and timely medical records.
- Ensure compliance with hospital protocols, infection control, and patient safety standards.
- Participate in mortality and morbidity meetings, audits, and quality improvement initiatives.
Communication
- Counsel patients' families regarding clinical condition, treatment plans, and prognosis in consultation with senior consultants.
- Coordinate effectively with nursing staff, respiratory therapists, and allied healthcare professionals.
