The role will focus on supporting projects that advanceIndia's heat resilience.The candidate will analyse large climate and geospatialdatasets, develop climate risk indices, particularly for extreme heat andmonsoon variability, and assist the team with tasks like data mining, data analysis,and literature reviews. Applicants should have a background in climatesciences, data science, GIS, atmospheric sciences, environmental science, orrelated fields.Key skills include experience with Python (especiallyXarray), GIS tools, Microsoft Office, and statistical tools. Knowledge ofmachine learning and deep learning is a plus.In addition to the duties and responsibilities below, theindividual should be prepared,



as and when necessary, to take on additionalresponsibilities.Job duties andaccountabilitiesPrimaryresponsibilitiesResearch andanalysis● Work on analysingmeteorological data, estimating climatic indices, and carrying out heat riskassessments for advancing heat resilience.● Use programminglanguages like Python (with libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, and Xarray), toolslike ArcGIS, QGIS, and Google Earth Engine, and platforms like GitHub toanalyze large climate and geospatial datasets and develop detailed climate riskindices. ● Assist the team inusing CMIP5 and CMIP6 climate models to create local and regional climateprojections by applying techniques like downscaling, bias correction, and zonalstatistics. ● Conduct desktopresearch and collect data from structured, semi-structured, and unstructuredsources to improve climate risk assessments. ● Work with GISdatasets (e.g., NDVI, DEM, elevation, and hydrology networks) using QGIS,ArcGIS, and Google Earth Engine, sourcing data from platforms like USGS andESRI. ● Create GISshapefiles for analysis and produce GIS-based maps to illustrate extreme eventsand climate variability. ● Support the team byreviewing literature and contributing to research writing on climate andspatial analysis. Other responsibilities ● Help the team andimprove personal skills in strategic communication by writing blogs and opinionpieces regularly. ● Respond to researchrequests from senior researchers, discuss their needs, and prepare summariesand analyses of information.



● Assist with programtasks like creating presentations. ● Help plan andorganize events such as report launches, workshops, and discussions. ● Actively participatein weekly team meetings. ● Provide suggestionson research methods and data analysis tools. SelectionCriteriaQualification● Preferably aMaster's degree in data science, climate studies, atmospheric science, GIS,environmental science, and other allied fields. Candidates pursuing theirdegrees can also apply. Work experience● 0-1 year. Key skills ● Demonstrated workexperience in developing tools and dashboards based on GIS and spatial temporaldata.● Knowledge andexperience in climate sciences, atmospheric sciences, meteorology, andgeospatial technology. ● Skilled in handlinglarge climate and geospatial datasets in formats like NetCDF, raster, andvector. ● Proficient in Pythonprogramming, including tools like Jupyter Notebook and libraries such asXarray, Pandas, Geopandas, and NumPy. ● Strong understandingof climate statistics and working with climate projections from global andregional models, including techniques like downscaling and biascorrection. ● Experience usingXarray in Python, along with tools like ArcGIS, QGIS, and Google EarthEngine. ● Good knowledge ofstatistical tools like Excel and SPSS and their applications. ● Proven ability todesign and carry out research in climate science.
