About the Role

Penerbitan Jaya Bakti Sdn. Bhd., Malaysia, is looking for a freelance Graphic Designer to support the development of children's educational books, textbooks, workbooks, magazines, and learning materials.

This position is suitable for designers who are experienced in educational publishing and can independently handle both page layout and image creation.

Location: Remote / Work from Home
Employment Type: Freelance (Project Basis)

We are looking for an experienced Book Designer to join our publishing team on a project basis. We specialise in educational publications, including children's books, textbooks, workbooks, magazines, activity books, teacher's guides, and exam papers.

Designers who consistently deliver high-quality work and demonstrate reliability may be considered for a full-time position in the future.

Job Responsibilities

- Design and layout educational publications using Adobe InDesign.
- Create colourful, engaging, and age-appropriate layouts for children's and academic publications.
- Design textbooks, workbooks, activity books, magazines, storybooks, exam papers, teacher's guides, catalogues, and other educational materials.
- Read and understand the manuscript, design brief, and instructions before starting each project.
- Follow detailed instructions accurately while maintaining consistency throughout the publication.
- Edit, enhance, and prepare illustrations, graphics, and images for publication.
- Use AI tools to generate and refine high-quality illustrations and graphics where appropriate.
- Prepare print-ready files according to publishing and printing standards.
- Make revisions based on feedback within the given timeline.

Requirements





- Minimum 3 years of experience in book design or educational publishing.
- Proven experience designing books with 32–200+ pages.
- Excellent knowledge of Adobe InDesign (Mandatory) for complete book layout and publication design.
- Proficient in Adobe Illustrator (Mandatory) for creating and editing vector artwork, diagrams, and illustrations.
- Proficient in Adobe Photoshop (Mandatory) for image editing, retouching, and preparing artwork for print.
- Experience using AI tools to generate and refine illustrations and graphics for books.
- Strong understanding of:
- Typography
- Book layout and page composition
- Print production
- CMYK colour mode
- Bleeds, margins, and safe areas
- Preparing press-ready artwork
- Able to understand written instructions and execute them accurately with minimal supervision.
- Detail-oriented with excellent time management and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Able to maintain consistent design quality across an entire publication.

Added Advantage

- Able to read and understand Tamil.
- Experience designing Malaysian educational or academic publications.
