What The Role Entails
The Mechanical Engineer will collaborate with the Pre-Development, Development, Engineering and Construction teams to support the development of data centres in Europe.
The successful individual will be responsible for contributing to Europe-wide development and influencing the data centres that CloudHQ constructs from the ground up.
The role will capture the full development cycle from pre-development liaison with stakeholders, including planning authorities and utility companies, working closely with all areas of the Development and Construction teams. The position will also encompass due diligence, early-stage masterplans, concept designs, detailed design stage management through to construction and handover. The successful hire will ideally be experienced in the full cycle of data centre delivery though for the right individual CloudHQ will provide training and work opportunities to grow into the role.
What You Will Get to Do
Support in the management of the master planning of CloudHQ sites pre-acquisition, working closely with the CloudHQ site selection, leasing, and Development and Construction teams
Be part of a close-knit team, effectively supporting the full life cycle of CloudHQ projects, guiding the Senior Management around both internal and external resource management
Assist in managing CloudHQ consultant teams in their delivery on behalf of CloudHQ, challenging the consultants to continually evolve and improve
Support in contract review, negotiation, and execution, utilizing knowledge of varying Design and Construction contract forms. Knowledge of VOB contracts would be an advantage
Contribute towards the budget management across projects where an active project contributor. Review budgets and provide comments. Effectively track changes and cost risks, flagging to the Senior Management where risks exist, developing mitigation strategies
Liaise with CloudHQ worldwide colleagues to ensure that best practice is uniform across all our developments, irrespective of geographic location
Provide technical expertise in the design and installation of data centre mechanical systems, fire suppression systems, and physical security measures to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations
Provide advice on the procurement process, reviewing returns and checking for compliance. Work with our contractors and vendors to ensure all construction work is best value for CloudHQ and our end customers
Undertake research into solutions that will benefit CloudHQ. Continually be engaged with data centre design thought leaders, be ahead of the curve on the latest innovations and strategies in the market
Liaise with our customers to assist them in the delivery of their preferred solutions into CloudHQ data centres and aid us in being the data centre provider of choice for all our customers
Be part of a team developing data centres across Europe in multiple new locations
Requirements
What You Bring to The Role
Previous experience in mechanical or building services engineering and project management
Proficiency with MS Office
Proficiency in relevant design software and tools, such as AutoCAD, Revit, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software
Familiarity with industry standards and codes
Solid understanding of energy efficiency best practices and sustainability principles as they relate to data centre infrastructure
Proficiency with MS Project
Critical thinker and problem solver
Ability to support several projects simultaneously and effectively
Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, consultants, and contractors
Robust interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively interface directly with clients
Willingness to travel locally, nationally, and internationally on a regular basis
Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment
Our Ideal Candidate Will Also Possess
Bachelor's or Master's Degree, mechanical or building services engineering, or technology-related discipline
Minimum 3 years of experience in mechanical or building services design or a design led Project Management role. Ideally in a high-tech asset class such as data centres, pharmaceutical or semi-conductor manufacturing development
This position will be based in the London, Paris or Frankfurt area
