Job Description:
The Quality Manager will oversee the entire quality assurance and control framework of our high-volume corrugation manufacturing plant in Pune. This role requires a technical expert to implement rigorous testing standards, minimize rejection rates, and manage customer compliance audits.
Core Responsibilities
Quality Assurance & Systems
- Maintain and upgrade ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and BRC/FSSC standards.
- Establish standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the corrugator and conversion sections.
- Drive root cause analysis (RCA) using 8D, 5-Why, and Ishikawa methods.
- Implement statistical process control (SPC) to track production trends.
Testing & Lab Management
- Oversee laboratory testing of raw materials like kraft paper and starch.
- Monitor critical parameters like GSM, Bursting Factor (BF), and moisture.
- Validate finished product testing including Box Compression Test (BCT) and Edge Crush Test (ECT).
- Calibrate all testing equipment regularly to ensure measurement accuracy.
Supplier & Customer Relations
- Audit paper mills and chemical vendors to ensure raw material consistency.
- Resolve customer quality complaints with speed and corrective actions.
- Lead technical discussions with major client accounts during site audits. [1]
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Experience: Minimum 10 to 15 years in corrugation quality management.
- Education: B.Tech or Diploma in Packaging Technology, Printing, or Chemical Engineering.
- Industry: Core corrugated packaging, monocartons, or paper conversion manufacturing.
Technical Skills
- Deep knowledge of 3/5/7-ply automatic corrugation plants.
- Expert understanding of paper chemistry, bonding, and warping defects.
- Certification in Lean Six Sigma (Green or Black Belt) is highly preferred.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (like SAP) and statistical software.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Defect Reduction: Lowering internal and external rejection PPM (Parts Per Million).
- Cost Savings: Reducing waste generated from poor quality or bad bonding.
- Audit Scores: Achieving green status in all third-party and customer compliance audits.
- Turnaround Time: Minimizing the closure time of customer complaints.
