Roles and Responsibilities
A loading/unloading job description may include the following tasks:
- Loading and unloading: Loading and unloading materials, raw materials, ingredients, semi-finished products, and finished products
- Preparing job sites: Setting up and dismantling tools and machinery
- Maintaining tools and equipment: Ensuring tools and equipment are in good condition
- Following safety procedures: Following all protected operating instructions and procedures
- Ensuring cargo is properly loaded: Ensuring cargo is properly loaded on the vehicle
- Conducting post-loading/unloading activities: Carrying out housekeeping, reporting and documentation, quality checking,
and problem identification activities
- Verifying shipping route schedules: Checking shipping route schedules and orders for accuracy prior to shipping
- Identifying and resolving discrepancies: Identifying and resolving any discrepancies, such as damaged or missing packages
A loading supervisor may also be responsible for:
- Monitoring the loading function
- Re-assigning resources as required
- Identifying problems and guiding workers to solve them
- Instructing loaders on how to arrange goods in the truck to maximize truck space
