The Lab Chemist will be responsible for conducting laboratory testing and analysis of raw materials, in-process samples, finished products, and by-products to ensure compliance with quality specifications and regulatory requirements. The role involves operating analytical instruments, maintaining laboratory records, supporting quality assurance activities, and ensuring adherence to laboratory safety and Valuable Laboratory Practices (GLP).
Roles and Responsibilities
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve issues related to product development and manufacturing processes.
Ensure compliance with GMP guidelines and maintain accurate records of testing results.
Conduct quality control tests on food products using HPLC, GC, FTIR, ICP-OES techniques.
Quality Testing
Perform analysis of key quality parameters including:
Free Fatty Acid (FFA)
Peroxide Value (PV)
Anisidine Value (AV)
Iodine Value (IV)
Moisture & Volatile Matter
Slip Melting Point (SMP)
Colour
Fatty Acid Profile
Other physical and chemical parameters as applicable
Ensure all testing is performed in accordance with approved SOPs and test methods.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain laboratory notebooks, test records, and analytical reports.
Prepare and maintain:
Test Reports
Certificate of Analysis (COA)
Sample Register
Chemical Consumption Records
Equipment Calibration Records
Record observations accurately in laboratory software and registers.
Ensure traceability of all laboratory samples and reports.
Educational Qualification
B.Sc./M.Sc. in Chemistry, Food Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Food Technology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline.
Experience
2 to 5 years of laboratory experience in the edible oil, specialty fats, food processing, FMCG, or chemical industry.
