PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The Community Health Worker (CHW) will work as a crucial link between the VisionSeva Centre and the communities it serves. The CHW drives patient footfall through door-to-door mobilization, organises awareness activities, camps through outreach, patient engagement, referral follow-up, and relationship building with local stakeholders ensuring sustainable, high-quality primary eye care reaches every household in the catchment area.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Community Outreach & Screening

- Help in Conducting door-to-door vision screenings within 5 km of the Vision Centre and refer identified patients.

- Organise and support outreach eye camps (minimum 1–4 per month) within 4–8 km of the VC.

- Conduct school screening programmes; encourage teachers, students and parents to visit the VC.

- Generate demand for eye care through home visits, village meetings and special community events.

- Coordinate with local resident welfare associations, schools, community groups, and housing societies.

- Mobilize senior citizens, women, school children, industrial workers, and vulnerable populations for screenings.

Awareness & Health Education

- Disseminate IEC (Information, Education & Communication) materials in local language

- Conduct regular sensitisation workshops for ASHAs, ANMs and Anganwadi workers

- Assist during community camps, screening drives, and awareness events.

- Celebrate World Sight Day,



World Diabetes Day and other health observances in the catchment area

- Maintain linkages with PHC staff, local NGOs, self-help groups, Panchayat and government officials

Vision Centre Support

- Assist the Vision Technician with patient registration, counselling and spectacle dispensing on busy days

- Maintain referral registers (physical/electronic) and conduct follow-up phone calls to referred patients

- Support documentation, daily reporting and data entry as required

- Assist in maintaining cleanliness of the spectacle display area and non-clinical spaces

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

- Minimum: 10th standard pass (12th preferred)

- Experience in community health, public health, NGO programs, healthcare outreach, ASHA coordination, or social development projects.

- Comfortable interacting with community members and local stakeholders.

- Training in spectacle dispensing (provided by the organisation)

KEY COMPETENCIES

- Fluent in local language/dialect; strong communicator

- Willingness to travel within the catchment area regularly

- Familiarity with eye health, healthcare programs, or community mobilization activities.

- Empathetic and patient-friendly attitude

- Basic record-keeping and documentation skills

- Ability to network with local stakeholders and government staff

Pay: ₹18,000.00 - ₹20,000.00 per month
