Job Summary

The PICU/NICU Staff Nurse is responsible for providing high-quality, compassionate, and evidence-based nursing care to critically ill newborns, neonates, infants, and children admitted to the Intensive Care Units. The nurse is responsible for continuous patient assessment, monitoring, medication administration, emergency response, infection prevention, documentation, and family education while maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and clinical excellence. Critical care nurses in NICU/PICU are expected to monitor unstable patients, administer medications safely, support advanced life-support interventions, and work closely with pediatricians, neonatologists, intensivists, and multidisciplinary teams.

Qualification

- B.Sc. Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing / GNM
- Valid State Nursing Council Registration
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (Mandatory)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) / Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certification preferred

Experience

- 1–5 years of experience in PICU, NICU, ICU, Pediatric Ward, or Critical Care.
- Freshers with NICU/PICU clinical exposure may be considered.

Key ResponsibilitiesPatient Care

- Deliver comprehensive nursing care to critically ill neonates, infants, and pediatric patients.
- Perform complete patient assessments and continuous monitoring.
- Monitor and document vital signs, oxygen saturation, neurological status, and fluid balance.
- Identify changes in patient condition and immediately inform the treating consultant.

Medication Administration

- Administer medications, IV fluids, antibiotics, blood products, and nutrition as prescribed.
- Maintain accurate medication records.




- Ensure safe administration of high-alert medications.

Critical Care Management

- Assist in neonatal and pediatric resuscitation.
- Operate and monitor ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, HFNC, syringe pumps, infusion pumps, incubators, warmers, cardiac monitors, and phototherapy units.
- Assist doctors during intubation, central line insertion, lumbar puncture, chest tube insertion, exchange transfusion, and emergency procedures.

Infection Prevention & Safety

- Follow NABH standards and hospital infection control protocols.
- Practice strict hand hygiene and aseptic techniques.
- Maintain isolation precautions whenever indicated.
- Ensure biomedical waste segregation according to hospital policy.

Documentation

- Maintain accurate nursing notes and electronic/paper medical records.
- Record intake-output charts, medication charts, nursing care plans, and procedure records.
- Complete admission, transfer, and discharge documentation.

Family Support

- Educate parents regarding patient condition, treatment plans, breastfeeding, kangaroo mother care, infection prevention, and discharge instructions.
- Provide emotional support and counseling to families during hospitalization.

Emergency Responsibilities

- Respond promptly to Code Blue and neonatal/pediatric emergencies.
- Assist during CPR and advanced life support.
- Prepare emergency drugs and equipment.

Equipment & Inventory

- Ensure functionality of all critical care equipment.
- Report equipment malfunction immediately.
- Maintain adequate stock of emergency medications and consumables.

Quality & Compliance

- Adhere to NABH standards, nursing protocols,



and hospital policies.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and patient safety programs.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information.

Team Collaboration

- Coordinate with consultants, respiratory therapists, physiotherapists, pharmacists, laboratory staff, and other healthcare professionals.
- Attend ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings.
- Ensure smooth shift handovers using standardized communication.

Salary: As per hospital norms and experience.

Pay: From ₹15,000.00 per month
