Purchase Manager - Packaging Category Buyer - Manager

Position Overview:

n

The Packaging Category Buyer is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and managing the procurement of all packaging materials (primary, secondary, and tertiary) required for the business. This role ensures cost-effective, sustainable, and innovative packaging solutions while maintaining supplier quality, compliance, and reliability. The role collaborates closely with supply chain, production, R&D;, and marketing teams to support business needs and deliver value.

Key Responsibilities:

n

- Develop and implement procurement strategies for packaging materials
n
- Conduct spend analysis and identify opportunities for cost reduction, process improvement, and value engineering.
n
- Identify, evaluate, and qualify suppliers based on quality, cost, capacity, sustainability, and compliance.
n
- Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms to secure favourable agreements.
n
- Benchmark costs and ensure competitiveness in the market.
n
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key packaging suppliers.
n
- Monitor supplier performance (quality, delivery, service, innovation).
n
- Drive supplier development and risk management initiatives.
n
- Partner with R&D;, Marketing, and Operations to support new product development (NPD)



and packaging innovation projects.
n
- Coordinate with logistics and planning for timely availability of materials.
n
- Ensure compliance with packaging regulations, food safety standards, and legal requirements.
n
- Track, analyze, and report savings, supplier performance, and category KPIs.
n
- Implement cost reduction initiatives without compromising quality or functionality.
n

Qualifications & Skills:

n

n
- Bachelor's degree in related field.
n
- 4–8 years of procurement experience, with at least 2–3 years in packaging procurement/category management.
n
- Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
n
- Good knowledge of packaging materials, technologies, and suppliers.
n
- Familiarity with sustainability trends in packaging.
n
- Solid analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
n
- Proficiency in ERP systems and MS Office.
n
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and interpersonal skills.
n
