About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Shopify Architect to lead the design, architecture, and technical strategy for enterprise-grade Shopify and Shopify Plus implementations. This is a remote, contract-based engagement suited for a senior technologist who can operate at both the strategic and hands-on technical level — guiding development teams, engaging with client stakeholders, and ensuring scalable, secure, and high-performing eCommerce solutions.

Key Responsibilities

- Own the end-to-end technical architecture for Shopify and Shopify Plus storefronts, including custom app development, theme architecture, and headless commerce implementations.
- Design scalable integration architectures between Shopify and enterprise systems, including ERP, OMS, PIM, CRM, WMS, payment gateways, tax engines, and other third-party platforms.
- Lead migrations from legacy eCommerce platforms such as Magento, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, and custom-built platforms to Shopify and Shopify Plus.
- Architect headless commerce solutions using Hydrogen, Oxygen, Next.js, and React-based storefronts integrated with the Shopify Storefront API.
- Define and enforce best practices for Shopify application development using Shopify CLI, Polaris, Admin API, Storefront API, and GraphQL.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to development and QA teams through architecture reviews, technical guidance, and code quality audits.
- Evaluate and recommend Shopify Plus capabilities, including Shopify Functions, Checkout Extensibility, Shopify Flow, legacy Scripts, and B2B on Shopify.
- Collaborate with client stakeholders, presales, and delivery teams to translate business requirements into scalable and maintainable technical solutions.
- Ensure adherence to performance, security, scalability, accessibility,



and coding best practices across all Shopify implementations.
- Support presales activities, including solution architecture proposals, technical estimations, RFP responses, technical presentations, and client discussions.

Required Skills & Experience

- 12+ years of overall software engineering experience, with at least 6–8 years of experience architecting Shopify and Shopify Plus solutions.
- Deep expertise in Shopify Liquid, Shopify CLI, Storefront API, Admin API, and GraphQL.
- Robust hands-on experience with headless commerce frameworks, including Hydrogen, Next.js, and Remix, along with Oxygen hosting.
- Proven experience architecting custom Shopify apps, including public, private, and embedded apps, using Node.js, React, and Shopify App Bridge.
- Solid understanding of Shopify Plus enterprise features, including Shopify Functions, Checkout Extensibility, Shopify Flow automation, and B2B/Wholesale capabilities.
- Experience integrating Shopify with enterprise systems such as SAP, NetSuite, Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics, and similar ERP/CRM platforms.
- Strong understanding of API-led integration architecture, event-driven systems, webhooks, and distributed system design.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git-based version control, and cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and GCP.
- Proven experience leading enterprise-scale platform migrations with minimal downtime and business disruption.
- Excellent client-facing communication skills, with the ability to present architecture decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Shopify Plus Partner experience or relevant Shopify certifications is preferred.

Nice to Have

- Experience with composable commerce and MACH architecture principles.
- Exposure to multi-store, multi-region, and multi-currency Shopify Plus implementations.
- Experience with QA automation frameworks, automated testing, and quality engineering practices for eCommerce platforms.
- Prior experience working with US- and UK-based clients in consulting, system integration, or IT services environments.
