Role & responsibilities
A. Key Responsibilities
I. Strategic & Business Support
- Contribute to the development and execution of long-term operational strategies including plant expansion, capacity enhancement, localization of critical components, and sustainability initiatives aligned with industry standards for mining equipment manufacturing.
- Align overall operational performance with broader business and customer expectations.
II. Manufacturing & Production Leadership
- Provide strategic and hands-on leadership for day-to-day plant operations, ensuring adherence to production schedules, efficiency targets, cost benchmarks, and on-time delivery commitments.
- Drive capacity planning and oversee monthly/quarterly production planning, ensuring seamless execution through robust coordination of resources, maintenance strategies, and workforce deployment.
- Implement Lean, TPM, and automation initiatives to enhance throughput, eliminate waste, strengthen equipment reliability, and improve overall operational performance.
III. Operational Excellence
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement through TQM, Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen methodologies.
- Standardize processes and eliminate waste across plants and key operational functions.
- Define, track, and review KPIs to monitor performance and ensure accountability at all levels.
- Lead cross-functional improvement initiatives delivering measurable operational and financial impact.
IV. Raw Material & Finished Goods Management
- Oversee timely procurement, availability, and optimal utilization of critical raw materials to support uninterrupted production.
- Improve raw material yield and minimize waste, rework, and non-value-added costs through robust controls and process discipline.
- Ensure optimal finished goods inventory levels aligned with customer demand, production planning, and dispatch priorities.
- Manage warehousing, storage, and dispatch operations to achieve high OTIF (On-Time In-Full) performance and superior customer service.
V. Plant Financials & COGS Management
- Own plant-level P&L; performance across all four plants in partnership with Finance and Business teams, ensuring robust financial governance.
- Monitor and control all COGS components, including raw materials, labour, overheads, energy consumption, and scrap levels.
- Identify and drive cost-optimization initiatives across operations while maintaining required quality and safety standards.
- Lead budgeting, variance analysis, and monthly operating reviews with disciplined financial management and data-driven decision making.
- Implement cost-tracking tools, dashboards, and reporting systems to enhance financial visibility, control, and operational decision support.
VI. Supply Chain & Procurement
- Collaborate closely with Central SCM and Procurement teams to support sourcing strategies, strengthen vendor performance, and ensure effective cost control across all plants.
VII. Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Partner with the Quality team to ensure products meet internal specifications, regulatory standards, and customer requirements.
- Support implementation of quality assurance systems to drive consistent, defect-free output across all plants.
VIII. Collaboration with PMG - New Product Development & Process Refinement
- Work closely with PMG and technical teams to scale up new product introductions and refine existing manufacturing processes.
- Introduce new equipment, tools, and manufacturing methods to enhance quality, reduce cost, and increase throughput.
IX. Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
- Ensure full compliance with statutory, regulatory, and internal HSE standards across all manufacturing locations.
- Drive proactive safety programs, including behavior-based safety initiatives, to minimize incidents and promote a strong safety culture.
X. Project Management (Plant-Level)
- Lead refurbishment and modernization of aging equipment to improve reliability and operational uptime.
- Oversee CAPEX projects, including feasibility assessments, ROI calculations, execution monitoring, and timely commissioning.
XI. People Management
- Lead and develop plant and shop-floor teams to ensure high performance and accountability.
- Drive capability building and workforce productivity through structured skill development.
- Maintain harmonious industrial relations, ensuring effective engagement with unions and timely issue resolution.
- Promote a safe, disciplined, and collaborative work culture aligned with operational goals.
B. Educational Qualifications
- BE (Mechanical/Production) is required.
• MBA in Operations Management is preferred.
C. Work Experience
- 2025 years of experience in plant operations within mining equipment manufacturing or heavy industrial sectors.
- Proven track record in managing plant P&L;, operational excellence programs, and manufacturing KPIs.
- Strong exposure to supply chain, quality systems, and financial performance management.
D. Knowledge
- Expertise in manufacturing engineering, including fabrication, machining, and assembly processes.
- Strong understanding of process design and process optimization principles.
