Purpose of the Role
The Commissioning Installation Engineer / Technician is responsible for the successful installation, mechanical completion, commissioning, and handover of H2S Scrubber Systems and associated process equipment at customer sites. The role ensures that every installation is executed safely, on schedule, and in accordance with engineering specifications while delivering the guaranteed H2S removal performance.
This position serves as the technical lead during site execution, coordinating with project engineers, contractors, vendors, and customers to ensure seamless commissioning and successful project completion.
Key Responsibilities
1. Installation Site Supervision
- Supervise the installation of H2S scrubber columns, ducting, recirculation pumps, piping, chemical dosing systems, and associated process equipment.
- Ensure installation complies with approved engineering drawings, PIDs, GA drawings, and OEM specifications.
- Coordinate with rigging teams, crane operators, contractors, and site personnel for secure lifting, positioning, and anchoring of heavy equipment.
- Verify equipment alignment, leveling, and mechanical integrity before commissioning.
- Coordinate with civil, electrical, and instrumentation teams to ensure timely project execution.
- Monitor installation quality and resolve site execution issues in coordination with the engineering team.
- Testing and Commissioning
- Perform pre-commissioning inspections and mechanical completion activities.
- Conduct hydrostatic, leak, and pressure testing of piping and process equipment.
- Verify alignment and operational readiness of pumps, blowers, fans, and rotating equipment.
- Calibrate and commission field instruments including:
- H2S Gas Analysers
- pH Meters
- ORP Meters
- Conductivity Meters
- Flow Meters
- Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
- Supervise loading of packing media and charging of scrubbing chemicals.
- Perform static and dynamic loop checks.
- Execute dry commissioning and wet commissioning trials.
- Validate airflow, pressure drop, and H2S removal efficiency to meet project guarantees (typically 95-99% removal efficiency).
- Troubleshoot commissioning issues and optimize system performance before customer handover.
- Health, Safety Environment (HSE)
- Enforce strict H2S safety procedures and site safety regulations throughout installation and commissioning.
- Ensure mandatory use of PPE, portable gas detectors, and emergency response equipment.
- Conduct Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Toolbox Talks, and risk assessments before commencement of work.
- Ensure safe handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals in accordance with statutory and environmental regulations.
- Promote a zero-incident safety culture at all project sites.
- Documentation Handover
- Prepare Mechanical Completion Certificates, Pre-Commissioning Checklists, Commissioning Reports, Punch Lists, and Site Progress Reports.
- Maintain complete commissioning documentation and testing records.
- Conduct operator training covering system operation, routine maintenance, chemical dosing, troubleshooting, and safety procedures.
- Support final customer acceptance testing and project handover.
- Provide post-commissioning technical support where required.
Key Performance Indicators
- Zero Lost Time Injuries (LTI) during installation and commissioning.
- Completion of installation and commissioning within the planned project schedule.
- Achievement of guaranteed H2S removal efficiency (95%) under design operating conditions.
- Successful mechanical completion with minimum punch-list items.
- Timely submission of commissioning documentation and handover reports.
- High customer satisfaction during commissioning and project close-out.
Requirements
Must Have
- 38 years of experience in installation, commissioning, startup, or maintenance of industrial process equipment.
- Experience with H2S Scrubbers, Biogas Upgrading Systems, Chemical Scrubbers, Biological Scrubbers, Gas Treatment Systems, Air Pollution Control Equipment, or similar process plants.
- Strong understanding of mechanical installation, piping systems, pumps, blowers, and rotating equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret PIDs, GA drawings, Isometric Drawings, and engineering documents.
- Hands-on experience with field instrumentation calibration and commissioning.
- Knowledge of corrosion-resistant materials including FRP, PP, HDPE, and Stainless Steel.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to travel extensively to project sites across India and overseas.
Good to Have
- Experience in biogas, wastewater treatment, renewable energy, chemical process plants, or environmental engineering projects.
- Familiarity with PLC-based control systems and SCADA interfaces.
- Experience in chemical dosing systems and water treatment processes.
- Exposure to FAT, SAT, and performance guarantee testing.
- Knowledge of international safety standards and commissioning practices.
- Basic understanding of electrical and instrumentation systems during commissioning.
