IoT Hardware & Firmware Engineer
About the Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic fresher to join our IoT hardware team. This is a hands-on role covering the full product lifecycle from circuit assembly and PCB design to firmware development and production coordination.
You'll work closely with senior engineers on microcontroller-based (ESP32/STM/NRF) IoT devices used in industrial and embedded applications, gaining exposure to every stage of building hardware products from prototype to production.
Key Responsibilities
- Circuit Assembly: Assemble, solder, and test prototype circuits
and development boards; debug hardware issues at the component level.
- PCB Design: Assist in designing and laying out PCBs (schematic capture,
component placement, routing) for microcontroller-based carrier boards, keepingin mind constraints like antenna keep-out zones, layer count, and signal integrity.
- Firmware Development: Write and debug embedded firmware (C/C++) for
microcontrollers such as ESP32, including peripheral interfacing (UART, SPI, I2C),communication protocols (Modbus RTU/RS485, MQTT), and bootloader/flash-related tasks.
- Production Coordination: Support the transition from prototype to
production coordinate with assembly/fab vendors, track build status, and help resolve issues that arise during manufacturing runs.
- Parts Sourcing: Identify, evaluate, and source components
(MCUs, sensors, connectors, passives) based on availability, cost, and technical fit; maintain BOMs and liaise with suppliers/distributors.
- Testing & Validation: Perform functional testing of assembled boards and
firmware builds; document test results and support debugging of field/productionissues.
- Documentation:
Maintain clear documentation of schematics, BOMs, firmware
changes, and test procedures.Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (or final year) in Electronics, Electrical, Instrumentation,
Computer Engineering, or related field.
- Basic understanding of electronic circuits, analog/digital fundamentals, and PCB
design tools (e.g., KiCad ).
- Working knowledge of embedded C/C++ programming and microcontroller
platforms (ESP32, Arduino, or similar).
- Familiarity with common communication protocols: UART, SPI, I2C; exposure to
Modbus RTU/RS485 or MQTT is a plus.
- Comfortable with hands-on lab work soldering, using multimeters/oscilloscopes,
debugging hardware.
- Basic understanding of component sourcing, datasheets, and BOM management.
- Valuable communication skills to coordinate with vendors and cross-functional teams.
- Willingness to learn and take ownership across the hardware-to-firmware-to-
production pipeline.
Good to Have
- Personal/academic projects involving IoT devices, PCB design, or embedded
systems.
- Exposure to Python or Perl for tooling/scripting around hardware testing or data
pipelines.
- Familiarity with cloud/data platforms used in IoT (MQTT brokers, InfluxDB, Node-
RED, etc.).
- Experience with 3D printing or mechanical prototyping.
What You'll Gain
- End-to-end exposure to IoT hardware product development — design, firmware,
sourcing, and manufacturing.
- Direct mentorship from senior engineers on real industrial IoT deployments.
- Opportunity to work across the stack, from PCB layout to cloud data pipelines.
