- Run destructive mechanical tests (tensile, compression, shear, bend) on Universal Testing Machines (UTM).
- Measure physical properties using Rockwell, Brinell, and Micro-Vickers hardness profiling.
- Conduct impact testing (Charpy/Izod) to determine material toughness under sudden stress.
Metallurgical Analysis
- Prepare metallographic specimens via accurate sectioning, mounting, grinding, and chemical etching.
- Evaluate grain size, phase distribution, inclusions, decarburization, and weld penetration using optical microscopes.
- Investigate component field failures to identify root causes like fatigue, hydrogen embrittlement, or improper heat treatment.
Chemical & Corrosion Assessment
- Verify elemental alloy composition using Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES) or wet chemical analysis.
- Set up and monitor environmental test simulations, including salt spray and intergranular corrosion (IGC) tests.
- Safely manage laboratory chemical storage, reagent preparation, and waste disposal protocols.
Compliance & Reporting
- Author and sign off on technical test reports, maintaining absolute data traceability.
- Ensure all test methods rigorously align with international regulatory frameworks (ASTM, ISO, ASME).
- Assist during external quality audits, keeping lab equipment calibrated and compliant.
