Job Description

The Drafter – Mechanical Engineering converts concepts from designers into precise technical drawings and CAD models that support design, manufacturing, and assembly of special purpose winding machines.

The role focuses on accurate documentation, orthographic detailing, and close collaboration with designers and engineers.

Position overview

- Job Title: Drafter – Mechanical Engineering

- Reports to: System Designer / Mechanical Designer / Mechanical Design Head

- Location: Bengaluru

Key responsibilities

CAD drafting and detailing

- Follow instructions and sketches from designers and engineers to create detailed 2D and 3D diagrams of parts, assemblies, and layouts using CAD software.

- Prepare orthographic projection drawings (front, top, side views) and sectional views to fully define components for manufacturing and inspection.

- Apply company drafting standards, dimensioning, and basic GD&T; so that drawings clearly convey size, fit, and functional requirements.

Design optimisation and reviews

- Support designers in optimising designs for durability, manufacturability, and functionality by refining dimensions, features, and detailing as directed.

- Review tolerances, stack?ups, assemblies,



and BoM entries with designers to ensure correctness and consistency across related drawings.

- Update and revise drawings to incorporate engineering changes, feedback from manufacturing, and improvement actions.

Communication and engineering understanding

- Use basic mechanical and engineering design concepts to explain drafted views and features to designers, production staff, and other stakeholders when required.

- Coordinate with designers and engineers to clarify inputs, resolve drawing queries, and meet drafting timelines for each project.

- Maintain organised CAD file structures, drawing registers, and revision histories in line with team procedures.

Qualifications and experience

- ITI/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Drafting, or related discipline.

- 0–2 years of experience in mechanical drafting; exposure to machine design or automation projects is an added advantage.

- Basic proficiency in at least one 2D/3D CAD software (for example AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar).

Skills and competencies

- Understanding of orthographic projection, dimensioning, and basic tolerancing principles.

- Attention to detail, accuracy in drafting, and ability to follow standard practices and instructions from senior designers.

- Valuable communication and teamwork skills to work effectively with designers, engineers, and production teams.
