Job Description – Phlebotomist

Job Title: Phlebotomist
Department: Laboratory Services

Reporting To: Laboratory Manager / Chief Lab Technician

Job Summary

The Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting blood and other specimens from patients safely, accurately, and professionally while ensuring patient comfort, proper identification, labeling, documentation, and compliance with NABH standards and infection control protocols.

Key Responsibilities

- Collect blood samples through venipuncture and capillary puncture from OPD, IPD, ICU, NICU, emergency, and home collection patients.
- Verify patient identity before specimen collection.
- Label specimens accurately and maintain complete documentation.
- Follow aseptic techniques and infection control protocols.
- Ensure timely transportation of samples to the laboratory.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and privacy.
- Explain procedures to patients and address their concerns professionally.
- Monitor patients for adverse reactions during or after blood collection.
- Maintain stock of collection tubes, needles, syringes,



vacutainers, and consumables.
- Dispose of biomedical waste according to hospital policy.
- Maintain cleanliness of the phlebotomy area.
- Coordinate with nursing units and clinicians for sample collection requirements.
- Participate in NABH quality initiatives and audits.
- Perform home sample collections whenever assigned.
- Report incidents, sample rejection, or patient complaints to the supervisor immediately.

Qualification

- DMLT / B.Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology (preferred)
- Certified Phlebotomy Training is an added advantage.

Experience

- 1–3 years in a hospital or diagnostic laboratory.
- Freshers with excellent practical skills may also be considered.

Pay: ₹10,367.17 - ₹30,000.00 per month
