Job Description: Security Officer – Plant Security
Position Overview
The Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and disciplined setting within the manufacturing plant. This role involves managing the on-site security guard team, monitoring all personnel and material movements, enforcing plant discipline, and leading fire safety and emergency response readiness. The ideal candidate will be highly vigilant, ensuring zero-tolerance policy enforcement around the clock while keeping the plant's fire fighting systems combat-ready.
Key Responsibilities
1. Fire Safety & Emergency Readiness
- Equipment Maintenance: Ensure 100% operational readiness of all fire safety equipment, including fire hydrants, sprinklers, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, and manual call points (MCPs).
- Permit to Work (PTW) Compliance: Monitor and clear high-risk jobs (such as hot work/welding) by issuing and checking fire safety permits before work begins.
- Mock Drills & Training: Plan, schedule, and execute regular fire drills and evacuation simulations. Train security guards, contract labor, and plant staff on basic firefighting and emergency protocols.
- Emergency Response: Act as the first responder during any fire outbreak, gas leak, or industrial emergency, leading evacuation procedures safely and effectively.
- Fire Check Inspections: Conduct routine checks on electrical panels, scrap yards, and chemical storage areas to proactively eliminate fire hazards.
2. Guard Management & Guarding Operations
- Team Supervision: Manage, schedule,
and supervise the outsourced security guard force to ensure effective deployment and optimal performance.
- Shift Control: Monitor and audit night patrolling routines; conduct regular surprise night shift and holiday visits to ensure alertness and strict compliance with duties.
- Patrol Oversight: Ensure no sleeping on duty, especially during the night shifts, and hold security guards accountable for their designated patrol zones.
3. Access Control & Movement Monitoring
- Man & Material Movement: Monitor, verify, and record all incoming/outgoing movement of personnel, visitors, vehicles, and raw/finished materials.
- Contract Labor & Discipline: Enforce strict behavioral and discipline guidelines for contract labor. Report any instances of unethical behavior, theft, or misconduct directly to the CHRO.
- Parking Management: Ensure structured, orderly parking of two-wheelers, four-wheelers, and commercial vehicles in designated plant parking zones.
4. Plant EHS, Safety, and Discipline Enforcement
- Substance Prohibition: Ensure 100% compliance with zero-tolerance policies regarding smoking, drinking, or consuming gutkha/tobacco inside the plant premises (crucial for both discipline and fire prevention).
- PPE Compliance:
Strictly enforce safety shoe mandates and other mandatory Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for all labor entering the plant.
- 5S & Housekeeping: Drive 5S activities within the security domain and perimeter lines, ensuring the perimeter and fire emergency exits are clean, neat, and clear of clutter at all times.
5. Surveillance & Reporting
- CCTV Operations: Actively monitor, operate, and control the plant-wide CCTV surveillance system to detect hazards, safety violations, or unauthorized activities.
- Headcount Accuracy: Provide a daily headcount report categorized by contractor, ensuring 100% data accuracy for audit and emergency roll-call purposes.
- Management Reporting: Submit comprehensive daily security logs and compile a detailed monthly Management Review Meeting (MRM) security and fire safety report for the leadership team.
Qualifications & Key Requirements
- Experience: 15+ years of experience in Industrial Plant Security management. Preference given to Ex-servicemen or candidates from heavy manufacturing backgrounds.
- Education/Certification: Any Degree or diploma.
- Technical Savvy: Hands-on experience with CCTV operating systems, bio metric access controls, and fire panel operations (addressable/conventional systems).
- Attributes: High integrity, physical fitness to handle emergency situations, and the ability to command respect while enforcing strict safety rules.
