BUSINESS UNIT DESCRIPTION:

Digital Technology provides strategic partnership, production support, and project execution to CIBCs retail and small business customers. The group supports three primary internet sites (CIBC Online Banking, cibc.com, and Simplii Financial) as well as mobile banking platforms, driving digital transformation and innovation across the banks technology landscape.

JOB PURPOSE:

The Senior Developer is responsible for delivering high-quality, secure, and maintainable front-end solutions for CIBCs digital platforms. This role actively contributes to all phases of the development lifecycle, from coding and code review to deployment and production support. The incumbent serves as a technical subject matter expert in front-end technologies and development best practices, supporting the scrum team in delivering business outcomes efficiently and effectively.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Technical Leadership & Development:

- Actively write, test, and review code for Jira stories and defects, ensuring timely and accurate delivery.
- Identify gaps in requirements and defects and escalate as necessary to leads or scrum masters.
- Maintain and update master branches as code moves into production environments.
- Identify code requiring refactoring, implement improvements, and promote code quality.
- Follow secure coding practices, address security risks identified in scans, and ensure code is properly documented for audit purposes.
- Utilize GitHub Copilot to enhance development efficiency where possible.
- Serve as a technical SME in front-end technologies (HTML, JavaScript, CSS, Vue.js, Ember.js).
- Manage Git repository ownership and branching strategies (Gitflow), ensuring best practice standards are followed.
- Understand and work with CI and deployment processes, troubleshooting and resolving technical issues.
- Provide technical assistance, training, and guidance to team developers, applying proven development methodologies (XP) within the scrum framework.
- Investigate and resolve production issues, particularly high-priority incidents, and continuously improve technical skills.

Team Collaboration & Continuous Improvement:

- Contribute to a positive scrum team culture by knowledge sharing, mentoring, and recognizing exemplary team members.
- Participate in continuous feedback discussions, product demos, and collaborative activities with QA, UI/UX, BSA, and Editorial teams to ensure smooth inter-team operations and timely removal of blockers.
- Attend relevant meetings for assigned work, escalate work ethic concerns, and raise blockers to the scrum master.




- Support release teams during cutover periods, which may require on-site or on-call participation.

CROSS-FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

- Collaborates with scrum team members, including QA, UI/UX, BSA, Editorial, and other developers, to ensure seamless delivery of features and resolution of issues.
- Interacts with product owners, scrum masters, and release teams to align on priorities, resolve blockers, and support releases.
- Engages with external vendors or technical partners as needed for integration or troubleshooting.

JOB DIMENSIONS:

- Supports multiple projects and scrum teams within the digital development area.
- Provides technical guidance and mentorship to L5 team members.
- Contributes to the achievement of team metrics, including Jira story completion, code review quality, and defect rates.
- May be required to support release activities outside of normal business hours.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Education: College/University degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Tech or equivalent.

Must have skills:

- 5+ years of experience in front-end development using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern front-end frameworks (e.g., Vue.js, React, Angular, Ember.js).
- Proficiency in Git and Gitflow workflow for source control and branching strategy.
- Strong understanding of Agile software development practices and methodologies (e.g., Scrum, XP).
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes.
- Ability to write secure, maintainable, and well-documented code.
- Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience working in cross-functional teams.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

- This role operates within a normal office workplace with little exposure to adverse working conditions.
