Job Description – Staff Nurse (PICU/NICU)

Job Summary
The PICU/NICU Staff Nurse is responsible for delivering specialized nursing care to critically ill neonates, infants, and pediatric patients. The role involves monitoring patients, administering medications, assisting in critical care procedures, operating life-support equipment, and ensuring secure, compassionate, and evidence-based nursing care in accordance with hospital policies and NABH standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill neonates, infants, and pediatric patients admitted to the PICU/NICU.
- Monitor and assess patients' vital signs, oxygen saturation, neurological status, and fluid balance.
- Administer medications, IV fluids, blood products, and nutritional support as prescribed.
- Operate and monitor ventilators, CPAP, HFNC, infusion pumps, syringe pumps, cardiac monitors, and other critical care equipment.
- Assist consultants during emergency procedures, including intubation, central line insertion, lumbar puncture, and resuscitation.
- Respond promptly to medical emergencies and participate in neonatal and pediatric resuscitation.
- Maintain accurate nursing documentation, medication records, and patient charts.
- Educate and counsel parents regarding patient care, breastfeeding support (NICU), treatment plans, and discharge instructions.
- Ensure strict adherence to infection control practices, sterilization protocols, and biomedical waste management guidelines.
- Coordinate with pediatricians, neonatologists, respiratory therapists, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure quality patient care.
- Ensure emergency equipment and crash carts are functional and readily available.
- Comply with NABH standards, nursing protocols, and hospital policies.
Eligibility
- GNM / B.Sc. Nursing
- Valid Karnataka Nursing Council (KNC) Registration – Mandatory
- Minimum 1–3 years of relevant PICU/NICU experience in a hospital – Mandatory
- Experience in handling ventilated and critically ill neonatal/pediatric patients is preferred.
Skills Required
- Strong clinical knowledge of neonatal and pediatric critical care.
- Experience in ventilator management and emergency patient care.
- Good clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in emergency and high-pressure situations.
- Basic computer knowledge and familiarity with Hospital Information Systems (HIS).
Preferred Candidate Profile
- Experience in an NABH-accredited hospital.
- Certification in BLS, NRP, or PALS will be an added advantage.
- Compassionate, patient-focused, and committed to delivering high-quality nursing care.
- Immediate joiners are preferred.
Work Schedule
- Rotational shifts (including night shifts)
- 6-day working week
- Weekly off as per hospital policy.

- ✔ Willingness to work in rotational shifts

Pay: ₹8,086.00 - ₹44,682.08 per month
