Senior Accountant – Bookkeeping & Financial Operations

Position Summary
The Senior Accountant owns the full bookkeeping cycle and core accounting operations of the company. This is a hands-on role for someone equally comfortable reconciling accounts at the transaction level and producing clean, reliable financial reporting that leadership can make decisions from. You will be the day-to-day owner of the books and a key partner to ownership and the company's outside CA/tax team.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the full-cycle bookkeeping, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger maintenance.
- Perform monthly bank, credit card, and merchant-processor reconciliations, ensuring all transactions are accurately categorized and tied out.
- Manage the month-end and year-end close process and deliver timely financial statements (P&L;, balance sheet, cash flow).
- Process and review payroll inputs in coordination with the payroll provider, and ensure proper recording of wages, contractor payments, and related liabilities.
- Track and manage vendor bills, expense approvals, and timely payments.
- Maintain accurate revenue and expense tracking, and reconcile supporting systems against deposits and statements.
- Support cash flow monitoring and basic forecasting for leadership.
- Maintain organized, audit-ready records and documentation.
- Partner with the outside CA on tax preparation, year-end workpapers, and any audits or reviews.
- Help develop and enforce internal controls and accounting policies appropriate to the business.
- Assist with budgeting and ad hoc financial analysis as requested.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of progressive bookkeeping/accounting experience, including full-cycle responsibility.
- Strong proficiency in QuickBooks (Online and/or Desktop) and Microsoft Excel.
- Solid understanding of GAAP fundamentals and month-end close processes.
- Experience reconciling high-volume transactions and merchant/credit card processing.
- High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to meet deadlines independently.
- Discretion and professionalism in handling confidential financial information.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting a small or growing company across multiple functions.
- Familiarity with managing 1099 contractor payments and related reporting.
- Experience supporting payroll and variable compensation structures.
- Familiarity with California labor, payroll, and tax compliance considerations.
- CA candidate a plus, but not required.
