Key Roles and Responsibilities
1. Welding and Repair of Aluminum Castings
- Perform welding repairs on aluminum cast components using processes such as TIG (GTAW), MIG (GMAW), or other approved methods.
- Repair casting defects such as porosity, cracks, shrinkage cavities, and surface imperfections.
- Build up worn or damaged areas to restore dimensions and functionality.
2. Preparation of Workpieces
- Clean castings before welding by removing oxides, dirt, grease, and contaminants.
- Prepare joints and defective areas through grinding, gouging, or machining.
- Select appropriate filler materials based on alloy specifications.
3. Reading and Interpreting Technical Documents
- Read engineering drawings, repair instructions, work orders, and welding procedures.
- Understand dimensional tolerances and quality requirements.
- Follow welding procedure specifications (WPS) and quality standards.
4. Equipment Operation and Maintenance
- Set up and operate welding machines and related tools.
- Adjust welding parameters such as current, voltage, and gas flow according to material and thickness.
- Perform routine maintenance and inspection of welding equipment.
5. Quality Inspection
- Conduct visual inspection of welded areas.
- Verify repair quality against specifications and acceptance criteria.
- Assist with non-destructive testing (NDT) activities such as dye penetrant inspection when required.
- Ensure welds are free from defects and meet customer requirements.
6. Grinding and Finishing
- Grind, polish, and blend repaired areas to achieve the required surface finish.
- Remove excess weld material while maintaining dimensional accuracy.
- Prepare castings for further machining, heat treatment, or final inspection.
7. Safety Compliance
- Follow workplace safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Handle welding gases, cylinders, and hot materials safely.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area to prevent accidents.
8. Production and Documentation
- Meet production schedules and repair targets.
- Record repair activities, defects repaired, and consumables used.
- Report quality issues and process abnormalities to supervisors.
Typical Skills Required
- Proficiency in aluminum TIG and MIG welding.
- Knowledge of aluminum casting defects and repair techniques.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and welding symbols.
- Familiarity with measuring instruments such as vernier calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
- Understanding of welding metallurgy and heat control for aluminum alloys.
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.
Pay: ₹35,000.00 - ₹38,000.00 per month
