Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Accountant who is well-versed in the FMCG or commodities distribution sector. You will be responsible for managing day-to-day accounting operations, tracking bulk inventory logistics, handling accounts receivable from local markets, processing vendor payments, and ensuring strict compliance with GST and local tax regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Daily Accounting & Bookkeeping

- Maintain accurately updated daily financial records using Tally Prime / ERP.
- Record all inward (purchase from mills) and outward (sales to wholesalers/retailers) billing entries.
- Manage petty cash and record daily cash/bank transactions.
- Generate accurate E-way bills for the dispatch of sugar loads and ensure proper documentation for freight and transport operators.

Accounts Payable & Receivable

- Follow up with local distributors, wholesalers, and clients in and around Kolkata for outstanding payments and overdue accounts.
- Process timely payments to sugar mills, logistics partners, and daily transport vendors.
- Reconcile party ledgers periodically to resolve any billing or payment discrepancies.

Inventory & Logistics Accounting

- Maintain daily stock statements of sugar inventory (in quintals/tons) at our godowns.
- Reconcile physical inventory with system records on a weekly/monthly basis.
- Account for transit shortages, warehouse wastage, and freight charges accurately.

Taxation & Compliance

- Prepare and file monthly/quarterly GST returns (GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, GSTR-9).




- Ensure timely deduction and deposit of TDS on transport, rent, and other applicable services.
- Assist the CA in finalizing year-end accounts, balance sheets, and profit & loss statements.
- Maintain compliance with all state and central trading regulations.

Banking & Reporting

- Perform daily and monthly bank reconciliations.
- Prepare Weekly Management Information System (MIS) reports on cash flow, pending receivables, and current stock valuation.

Qualifications & Requirements

- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (B.Com) or Master’s in Commerce (M.Com).
- Experience: 3 to 5 years of core accounting experience, preferably in trading, wholesale distribution, or the FMCG sector.
- Technical Skills:
- Expert proficiency in Tally Prime (or Tally ERP 9).
- Strong working knowledge of MS Excel (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, basic formulas).
- Hands-on experience with the GST portal and E-way bill generation.
- Language Skills: Fluency in Bengali and Hindi (crucial for communicating with local transport operators and market dealers); good understanding of English.
- Soft Skills: High ethical standards, strong numerical accuracy, and the ability to work under pressure during month-end closings or festive peak seasons.
