SUMMARY

The Design Engineer – Optics is responsible for designing and developing tooling required for precision optical

manufacturing. The role includes preparing manufacturing tool drawings, supporting production with appropriate

tooling solutions, coordinating with vendors, maintaining tooling and raw material inventory, and ensuring timely

availability of tools to achieve production and quality objectives.

EDUCATION

Bachelor's Degree (B.E./B.Tech.) in Mechanical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Production Engineering,

Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Design Engineer – Optics Department: Precision Optics Location: Bangalore Reports To: Assistant General

Manager – Precision Optics Grade/Level: Engineer

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Tool Design & Development: - Design and develop tooling drawings based on optical component specifications. -

Prepare manufacturing drawings for conventional and high-speed optical processing machines. - Coordinate with the

AGM and production team to finalize tooling requirements. - Modify existing tool designs to improve productivity,

quality, and tool life.

Production Support: - Provide suitable tooling to the production team as per manufacturing requirements. - Resolve

tooling-related issues during production. - Support current product development by designing customized tooling

solutions. - Ensure tools are available before production starts.

Vendor & Quality Coordination: - Inspect and verify tools received from suppliers against design specifications. -

Coordinate with vendors for tool modifications and rework, when required. - Maintain quality records of incoming

tools. - Report tool quality issues and corrective actions to the AGM.

Inventory Management:



- Maintain inventory of optical tools, raw materials, consumables, and fixtures. - Monitor

stock levels and initiate procurement requests when required. - Maintain updated records of tooling, consumables, and

raw material availability.

Documentation: - Maintain tool drawings and revision history. - Prepare documentation related to tool design,

inspection, and inventory. - Ensure proper filing of engineering drawings and manufacturing records.

Continuous Improvement: - Recommend improvements in tooling design and manufacturing processes. - Participate in

cost reduction and productivity improvement initiatives. - Support implementation of standard engineering practices.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIS)

- Timely preparation of tooling drawings. - On-time availability of production tools. - Tool acceptance rate without

rework. - Reduction in tooling-related production delays. - Accuracy and maintenance of tool inventory records. -

Timely procurement of tooling and consumables. - Improvement in manufacturing efficiency through optimized

tooling.

AUTHORITY

- Prepare and release tooling drawings after approval. - Recommend tooling modifications and improvements. -

Coordinate with vendors regarding tooling requirements. - Raise material and tooling requisitions.

INTERNAL & EXTERNAL INTERACTIONS

Internal: - AGM – Precision Optics - Production Department - Quality Assurance - Purchase Department - Stores -

Planning Department

External: - Tool manufacturers - Raw material suppliers - Approved vendors

EXPERIENCE

- 0–1 years of experience in tool design, manufacturing engineering, or precision optics. - Freshers with strong

SolidWorks skills may also be considered.
