A Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CT ICU) Incharge acts as the senior clinical leader, managing daily operations, supervising staff, and ensuring high-quality, specialized care for patients recovering from heart and lung surgeries. They oversee patient safety, coordinate resource allocation (ventilators, hemodynamics), and maintain infection control protocols, typically requiring a BSc Nursing and 3–8 years of critical care experience.

Key Responsibilities

- Clinical Leadership: Manage patient care, including post-operative monitoring for cardiothoracic surgeries (CABG, valve replacement), ventilators, and hemodynamic stability.
- Team Management: Supervise ICU staff (nurses, aides), assign patient care, conduct handover, and provide training or mentoring.
- Operations Oversight: Ensure 24/7 availability of critical supplies, medications, and functional high-end equipment.
- Quality Assurance: Enforce infection control policies (barrier nursing)



and ensure compliance with medical protocols and documentation standards.
- Interdepartmental Coordination: Collaborate with cardiothoracic surgeons, cardiologists, and anesthesiologists for patient care planning.
- Emergency Response: Lead emergency situations, such as CPR or cardiac emergencies within the unit.

Qualifications and Skills

- Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.Sc.) or General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM).
- Experience: 3–8 years in critical care nursing, with previous leadership experience preferred.
- Certifications: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license; Certification in Critical Care Nursing (CCRN) preferred.
- Skills: Proficiency in ventilators, hemodynamics monitoring, and ICU management software.
