Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced VTL Setter cum Operator to set up, operate, and monitor Vertical Turning Lathe (VTL) machines for machining large and precision components. The candidate will be responsible for machine setting, tooling, job changeovers, quality inspections, and achieving production targets while ensuring safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

- Set up and operate VTL machines as per production requirements.
- Perform job setting, workpiece alignment, chucking/clamping, and fixture setup.
- Select, install, and set cutting tools, inserts, and tool offsets.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, process sheets, and machining instructions.
- Conduct trial runs and obtain first-piece approval before production.
- Monitor machining operations and adjust cutting parameters as required.
- Perform tool offset corrections and tool replacements to maintain quality.
- Inspect machined components using measuring instruments and gauges.
- Ensure dimensional accuracy, tolerances, and surface finish as per specifications.
- Carry out job changeovers and minimize machine downtime.
- Maintain production records,



inspection reports, and machine logs.
- Follow preventive maintenance practices and maintain machine cleanliness.
- Report machine breakdowns, tooling issues, and quality concerns to supervisors.
- Adhere to all safety, quality, and company procedures.

Required Skills

- Hands-on experience in VTL machine setting and operation.
- Knowledge of machining large-diameter components and precision turning operations.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and understand GD&T; concepts.
- Familiarity with CNC controls such as Fanuc, Siemens, Mitsubishi, or equivalent.
- Knowledge of cutting tools, inserts, machining parameters, and work-holding methods.
- Proficiency in using measuring instruments such as Vernier calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators, and height gauges.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

- ITI / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Tool & Die Making, or related field.
- Relevant experience in VTL machine setting and operation.
