We are looking for an experienced Transport Manager to lead transportation, fleet management, vehicle maintenance, dispatch operations, and logistics activities for a leading food manufacturing company. The candidate will be responsible for ensuring timely delivery of finished goods across distributors, depots, C&F; agents, modern trade, institutional customers, and export locations while maintaining optimum transportation cost, fleet availability, vehicle health, statutory compliance, and customer service standards. Role & responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

- Plan daily vehicle requirements based on dispatch schedules.
- Ensure timely placement of owned and hired vehicles.
- Coordinate with Production, Warehouse, Sales, and Dispatch teams.
- Monitor dispatch schedules and delivery timelines.
- Optimize routes to reduce transportation costs.
- Ensure 100% vehicle availability for dispatch requirements.
- Track vehicle movement using GPS systems.
- Monitor transit delays and initiate corrective actions.
- Ensure timely Proof of Delivery (POD) collection.
- Manage company-owned and hired vehicle fleet.
- Monitor vehicle utilization and productivity.
- Maintain fleet availability above targeted levels.
- Prepare vehicle deployment plans.
- Maintain complete fleet database.
- Coordinate vehicle replacement planning.
- Evaluate transport vendors and vehicle contractors.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for all company vehicles.
- Coordinate routine servicing, lubrication, and periodic inspections.
- Ensure timely repair of vehicle breakdowns to minimize downtime.




- Monitor vehicle health through regular technical inspections.
- Maintain service history and maintenance records of each vehicle.
- Coordinate with authorized service centers and workshops.
- Approve repair estimates and monitor repair quality.
- Ensure timely replacement of tyres, batteries, lubricants, and spare parts.
- Monitor fuel efficiency and identify abnormal fuel consumption.
- Conduct root cause analysis for recurring vehicle breakdowns.
- Maintain inventory of critical spare parts and consumables.
- Ensure vehicles meet fitness, emission, and roadworthiness standards.
- Monitor Annual Maintenance Contracts (AMC), if applicable.
- Implement cost-saving initiatives in maintenance and repairs.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Ensure all defects reported by drivers are rectified before vehicle deployment.
- Manage driver allocation and rostering.
- Monitor attendance and duty schedules.
- Verify valid driving licenses and renewals.
- Conduct driver safety and defensive driving training.
- Ensure compliance with road safety norms.
- Monitor driver discipline and performance.
- Conduct toolbox talks and safety meetings.
- Develop transport vendor network.
- Negotiate freight rates.




- Finalize transportation contracts.
- Monitor transporter performance.
- Resolve transporter issues.
- Ensure vehicle availability during peak season.
- Control freight expenses.
- Reduce vehicle idle time.
- Monitor detention charges.
- Improve vehicle utilization.
- Optimize fuel consumption.
- Control repair and maintenance costs.
- Analyze logistics cost trends.
- Prepare monthly transportation cost reports.

- Ensure proper stacking and handling of finished goods.
- Maintain food-grade transportation standards.

Preferred candidate profile

- Strong knowledge of fleet management and transportation operations.
- Hands-on experience in commercial vehicle maintenance and repairs.
- Valuable understanding of preventive maintenance systems.
- Experience in managing transport contractors and workshops.
- Knowledge of GPS tracking and fleet management software.
- Excellent negotiation and vendor management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Leadership and team management skills.
- Working knowledge of SAP/ERP/TMS is preferred.
- Proficiency in MS Excel and MIS reporting.
