- " The Capacity Optimization Lead / Practitioner is responsible for leading infrastructure and application infrastructure capacity optimization initiatives across multiple technology domains and managed service environments.
- This role connects technical expertise, service delivery understanding, financial transparency, capacity planning, analytics, and stakeholder governance to improve cost competitiveness, reduce waste, right-size capacity, avoid unnecessary capital investment, and support demand-led growth.
The role must articulate and execute across three integrated workstreams: Workstream
- #1 - Product & Physical Assessment, Workstream
- #2 - Financial Correlation, and Workstream
- #3 - Capacity Optimization.
- The practitioner acts as a bridge between technical teams, product/service owners, finance, commercial teams, data/analytics, automation, delivery, and account stakeholders to convert fragmented data into trusted asset-product-cost-capacity visibility, optimization roadmaps, business cases, and measurable outcomes.
1. Technical, Product & Business Expertise
- Apply advanced knowledge of IT infrastructure and application infrastructure domains such as network, compute, storage, security, mainframe, SAP/application platforms, data center services, business continuity, and managed service delivery models.
- Understand how products, service units, technical capacity, utilization, billing/recovery, and cost-to-serve are defined, measured, consumed, and optimized across shared or leveraged services.
- Translate technical capacity findings into business impact, including cost competitiveness, service revenue, rate/recovery implications, margin improvement, capital avoidance, risk reduction, and growth enablement.
2. Program Governance & Cross-Workstream Leadership
- Lead or support the execution plan across the three capacity optimization workstreams, ensuring each workstream feeds the next and contributes to a closed loop from visibility to cost transparency to optimization.
- Define milestones, owners, data dependencies, assumptions, risks, issues, decision points, and escalation paths across multiple products, services, accounts, regions, or infrastructure domains.
- Maintain structured governance through action trackers, exception logs, remediation plans, quick-win registers, weekly/monthly progress reporting, and leadership-ready summaries.
3. Workstream #1 - Product & Physical Assessment
- Map infrastructure assets and application platforms to products, service offerings,
customer groups, and consumption models at the required reporting level.
- Establish and validate a unified physical/product baseline by reconciling enterprise asset inventories, operational inventories, financial asset registers, configuration records, monitoring/capacity data, and product/service ownership inputs.
- Create and maintain product-to-asset ownership matrices, exception reports, remediation trackers, and dashboard views that enable asset-product-cost traceability.
- Identify data quality gaps, orphaned assets, ownership conflicts, missing product mappings, legacy inventory issues, and blockers that prevent reliable cost and capacity decisions.
4. Workstream #2 - Financial Correlation
- Align ERP/financial system data with the validated product and asset baseline to create transparent cost-to-serve views by product, service offering, infrastructure domain, location, and/or customer group.
- Classify expenses, revenue/recovery entries, labor, subcontractor, amortization/depreciation, license, SaaS, supplier charges, internal charges, and other cost drivers into known cost buckets.
- Identify unknown or misaligned costs, inflated internal charges, missing billing/recovery, rate/recovery anomalies, and financial exposures that impact product competitiveness.
- Partner with finance, commercial, product/service owners, delivery, and technical subject-matter experts to validate assumptions, reconcile data, and convert financial insights into actions and savings trackers.
5. Workstream #3 - Capacity Optimization
- Measure installed, procured, and available capacity against capacity in use, chargeable volume, billed/recovered volume, growth headroom, and utilization trends at product, service, domain, and location level.
- Assess whether environments are right-sized by correlating capacity data with financial baselines, demand signals, performance data, monitoring outputs, lifecycle status, and product/service roadmaps.
- Identify opportunities for resizing, consolidation, modernization, decommissioning, migration, demand redirection, capital avoidance, and rate/cost-to-serve improvement.
- Develop optimization roadmaps and business cases with estimated savings, investment needs, ROI/payback, dependencies, risks, owners, timelines, and execution status.
6. Analytics, Dashboards, Automation & Data Quality
- Build, specify, or manage dashboards that translate infrastructure, capacity, billing, cost, recovery, and operational data into transparent and actionable metrics for leadership and delivery teams.
- Work with data engineering and analytics teams to integrate trusted datasets from asset repositories, financial systems, monitoring platforms, billing tools, service management platforms, operational inventories, and capacity planning tools.
- Partner with process automation teams to automate validations, exception detection, data reconciliation, expense classification, anomaly identification, and recurring reporting activities.
- Apply AI/copilot tools and structured analytical methods where appropriate to accelerate analysis while maintaining traceability, data quality, and governance.
7. Stakeholder Management, Advisory & Transformation Support
- Influence product/service leaders, technical capabilities, finance, commercial teams, delivery leaders, account teams, and internal business stakeholders regarding operational details, optimization opportunities, business cases, and priorities.
- Support transition, transformation, modernization, deal pursuit, and solution review activities by providing technical, capacity, cost-to-serve, and optimization input aligned to contractual and service requirements.
- Translate complex technical and financial findings into concise, decision-ready materials, including executive summaries, dashboards, roadmaps, risks, asks, and recommendations.
- Become a trusted advisor by connecting infrastructure reality, financial truth, and business competitiveness across technical, financial, and operational audiences.
8. Execution, Controls & Continuous Improvement
- Drive actions to closure across quick wins, remediation items, data corrections, modernization plans, cost alignment, and capacity optimization initiatives.
- Ensure assumptions, exceptions, baselines, decisions, and savings claims are documented, validated, and auditable.
- Continuously monitor capacity, utilization, cost, billing/recovery, rate, and demand trends to sustain the optimization loop and prevent recurrence of overbuilt, underutilized, or financially misaligned environments
