Educational Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree (B.Tech) in Chemical Engineering or Petrochemical Engineering from a recognized university.
- Diploma in Industrial Safety (RLI/CLI) Mandatory.
- Additional certifications in ISO 14001, ISO 45001, Process Safety Management (PSM), NEBOSH, or Lead Auditor qualifications will be an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 10+ years of relevant experience in Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) within the Chemical Process Industry.
- Experience in Petrochemicals, Specialty Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals, or Continuous Process Manufacturing is highly preferred.
- Proven experience in managing EHS systems, statutory compliance, and process safety in large manufacturing facilities.
Technical Competencies
- Solid knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) principles and implementation.
- Hands-on experience in conducting HAZOP, Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment (HIRA), Job Safety Analysis (JSA), and Risk Assessments.
- Expertise in Permit to Work (PTW) systems, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, hot work, line breaking, and contractor safety management.
- Thorough understanding of environmental management, hazardous chemical handling, hazardous waste management, and pollution control requirements.
- Experience in emergency preparedness planning, fire protection systems, firefighting equipment, and emergency response drills.
- Strong capability in incident investigation, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and implementation of Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
- Knowledge of occupational health programs, industrial hygiene, and behavioral safety initiatives.
- Experience in implementing and maintaining ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 Management Systems.
- Ability to develop EHS procedures, SOPs,
risk control measures, and compliance documentation.
Regulatory & Statutory Knowledge
- Thorough understanding of applicable Indian EHS legislation and regulatory requirements, including:
- Factories Act and applicable Rules
- Manufacture, Storage and Import of Hazardous Chemicals (MSIHC) Rules
- Hazardous and Other Wastes Management Rules
- Environmental Protection Act
- Water and Air Pollution Control Acts
- Practical experience in dealing with regulatory authorities such as:
- Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB)
- Directorate of Industrial Safety & Health (DISH)
- Fire & Rescue Services
- Labour Department
- Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB)
- DGFASLI
Leadership & Management Skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead EHS teams and foster a strong safety culture across the organization.
- Experience in planning and delivering EHS training and competency development programs for employees and contractors.
- Strong coordination skills to work effectively with Production, Maintenance, Engineering, Projects, HR, and external agencies.
- Ability to lead EHS activities during plant shutdowns, expansions, and capital projects.
- Experience in preparing EHS budgets, monitoring KPIs, and presenting performance reports to senior management.
