Role & responsibilities
Job Summary
The Senior Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the Transformer Lamination division, focusing on high-precision punching, tool and die maintenance, and controlled annealing processes. This role is responsible for ensuring the production of high-quality laminations (typically 0.25 mm to 0.5 mm thick) that meet strict magnetic and mechanical standards to minimize eddy current losses in transformer cores. You will lead a technical team, manage tool changeovers, and optimize furnace cycles to maintain peak production efficiency.
Main Responsibilities
- Manage high-speed punching and slitting lines to produce burr-free transformer laminations according to technical blueprints.
- Supervise the assembly, maintenance, and repair of progressive, compound, and blanking dies.
- Lead rapid and accurate die changeovers to minimize machine downtime while ensuring perfect alignment and clearance for the next job.
- Review production schedules, processes, and specifications to analyse workflows.
- Develop and maintain process documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and production reports.
- Monitor and optimize the annealing furnace parameters (temperature, atmosphere, and cycle time) to restore magnetic properties and relieve internal stresses in processed steel.
- Conduct regular inspections using precision instruments (VMM, micrometres, height gauges) to ensure laminations meet thickness uniformity and dimensional tolerances.
- Implement TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) and Lean principles to enhance throughput and reduce material waste.
- Prepare comprehensive material and equipment lists, perform cost analysis, and estimate production expenses to support project planning.
- Enforce OSHA Safety Standards for high-voltage environments and heavy machinery operation.
Necessary Skills & Required Competencies
- Proficiency in reading complex engineering drawings, GD&T;, and using CAD/CAM software (AutoCAD, NX) for die troubleshooting.
- Deep understanding of the annealing cycle for electrical steel and its impact on core losses.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP) for inventory and production tracking.
- Robust critical thinking, problem-solving, and data analysis skills to identify and troubleshoot issues
- Strong team management skills, including shift planning and manpower allocation.
- Excellent cross-functional communication, coordination, and team-oriented skills
Relevant Personality Traits
- Critical for identifying micro-defects in thin laminations or die wear.
- Ability to troubleshoot machine failures or quality deviations in real-time.
- High stamina for managing a demanding, 24/7 manufacturing environment
- Proactive Approach (required for identifying opportunities for improvement and leading initiatives).
- Clarity in translating technical requirements to floor operators and reporting to senior management.
Preferred candidate profile
- Diploma in Tool and Die Making (GTTC/NTTF or equivalent) or a B.E./B. Tech in Mechanical/Production Engineering.
- Certification (Desirable):
Transformer Manufacturing Processes or related electrical standards (e.g., IEC 60076).
ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management training.
OSHA 10/30-Hour General Industry safety certification.
- Proven track record in managing CRGO (Cold Rolled Grain Oriented) & CRNGO (Cold Rolled Non-Grain Oriented) steel and its specific annealing requirements.
- The role is based in Dabaspet, Bengaluru, India.
- Ability to stand for long periods and work in high-temperature environments near annealing furnaces.
- Willingness to work in rotating shifts and handle 6-day work weeks common in factory settings.
- Exposure to loud noise and metal fumes (requires strict adherence to PPE).
