Roles & Responsibilities – Diesel Generator Maintenance Technician

Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance of diesel generator (DG) sets.

Carry out routine inspection of engine, alternator, control panel, cooling system, and fuel system.

Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults in DG sets.

Attend emergency breakdowns and restore equipment to normal operating condition with minimum downtime.

Perform scheduled servicing, including engine oil, coolant, air filter, fuel filter, and oil filter replacement.

Repair or replace defective components such as batteries, starters, alternators, sensors, belts, hoses, and wiring.

Carry out engine overhauling and component replacement as required.

Inspect and troubleshoot AMF/ATS panels, control panels, and protection systems.

Conduct load testing and performance testing after maintenance or repairs.

Perform protected startup and shutdown of DG sets as per Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Execute planned shutdown maintenance activities within the scheduled timeline.

Ensure all maintenance work is completed before recommissioning the DG set.

Record maintenance activities, breakdown reports, and spare parts consumption in maintenance logs.

Identify recurring equipment issues and recommend corrective actions to improve reliability.

Maintain tools, equipment, and spare parts in good working condition.

Ensure proper housekeeping in the DG room and maintenance area.

Follow all safety procedures, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO),



and PPE requirements during maintenance and shutdown activities.

Coordinate with supervisors and operations teams for maintenance planning and shutdown execution.

Assist in installation, commissioning, and testing of new DG sets when required.

Ensure compliance with company maintenance standards and HSE policies.

Shutdown Maintenance Responsibilities

Plan and execute scheduled DG shutdown maintenance.

Isolate the DG set using Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures before maintenance.

Inspect the engine, alternator, radiator, exhaust system, and control panel during shutdown.

Replace worn or damaged parts during planned maintenance.

Clean internal and external components of the DG set.

Tighten electrical connections and mechanical fasteners.

Check insulation resistance, battery condition, and charging system.

Refill engine oil, coolant, and other consumables as required.

Perform functional testing before returning the DG set to service.

Prepare shutdown maintenance reports and update maintenance records.
